having at least 6 spare claim-/town-squares outside your walls is a bit to much to ask for, isn't it?
this was the case previously (on the first implementation).
By now splash can only travel from higher or equal tier walls to other walls, and will only travel a single square at a time (although I do not know whether wall segments destroyed by splash again start a splash damage event).
In any case, I found it to be a pretty good and balanced mechanic, firstly because it makes multiple layer walls a lot less useful, and those are ugly
