Cant Place Ore Smelter

Postby RichestHOBO » Sat Mar 02, 2013 8:11 pm

I tried to place an ore smelter and when i do it says "you cant build that here"
So, i made a empty perfectly flat space...
Tried again, same result
Had another player come and try
Same thing happened to him
Please Help!!

We both have all skills required and the conditions were more than ample for a placement

Just a note, dirt and clay look the same. If you try digging and you get a piece of clay in the inventory, you cant build on that either.

Are you sure you have enough room around it that is completely flat? You might try extending the flat area one more tile each direction. Sometimes this does interfere and a few buildings have footprints larger than what the visual shows. Also, if you're too close to a feature such as a cliff, water, or a terrain that can't be built on (clay, sand, stone, etc), you get the same error.

A screenshot would be helpful. (Make sure to only show exactly where you're trying to build. Some people will see a place as a potential target for raids.)

Ore smelters have a footprint that is annoyingly larger than their graphic. I found out the hard way that you can't walk underneath the ladder and nearly blocked the entrance to my mine.

Can an Ore Smelter be built in a mine? If so, as is, or paving is required first and...?

no they can't ...
You get the some error as the OP received (indicating that, probably, the ground must be paved), and you can't pave in a mine.

Honestly, this'd be awesome! Imagine house/smelters/stamps/mills underground!
Guess it's pretty obvious why this is not allowed :) private instance mines would make any upkeep for a claim pointless, since anyone who is certain he can protect the mine entrance will just put everything underground.

Question (semi-connected): does anyone know whether mine holes are persistent ? (i.e. when you destroy a mine entrance, and rebuild it, is the mine you enter then the same as before the entrance was destroyed, or does it start afresh? )
I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.
