I doubt your character is advanced enough for you to worry about being KO for 24 hours. Most people will send you home.

Gosh that sounds annoying. A warning is fine but it should not be super intrusive like that. At most maybe a red exclamation point should pop up above your head but can you imagine having a pop up box appear and stop your movements and actions every time you tried to trespass?

HEY! HEY YOU! I KNOW YOU TURNED ON CRIMINAL ACTIONS AND HAVE THE APPROPRIATE SKILLS BUT THE LAST 20 TIMES I TOLD YOU THAT THIS WAS WRONG WEREN'T ENOUGH. JUST WANNA, YOU KNOW, MAKE SURE THAT YOU GET IT. HEY THIS NEEDS TO BE LONGER SO THAT IT CAN HIDE MORE OF YOUR SCREEN WHILE THAT BRAZIER SHOOTS AT YOU. DON'T WORRY, I STOPPED YOUR PATHING SO YOU'RE JUST STANDING THERE.

What's wrong with a dialog box opening up the first time you turn on criminal acts? If it's just a simple line like "Warning, criminal acts may result in death, be wary!" I don't see anything wrong.

Of course, the character was ganked a few hours later. There goes a week of work down the drain. Not sure I feel like starting another character.

You're technically correct Dallane that he needn't worry about the fate of his KO'd character, but the devil is in the details.

Don't do the crime if you can't do the time

I went to sleep last night with it still KO'ed fearing the worst. Tried logging on this morning to check on it and the only option is to create a new character, so I assume I've been ganked which wasn't unexpected. You have a strangely optimistic outlook.

I was definitely aware that going around stealing and murdering people would get me tracked down and killed. What was very surprising to me was firstly that trespassing ate my stats and secondly that dying on the claim KO'ed me for 24 hours. I think that if a warning is added it should address both of those effects. I should reiterate that I was on some small, abandoned looking claims with no walls or defenses. I was merely looking around. If I had seen a brazier or torch shooting me, I would have nothing to complain about because the damage would have been obvious. A red flashing outline due to taking damage or a heartbeat sound when my stats became low would have also probably sufficed.

Someone has indeed killed your character for being a criminal scum

We know this sucks, but there are really two options how you handle this from now on.

Geckzilla's trying to think of ways to reduce accidental death, not get advice for "oh no why I die?". He knows why his character got a 24hr KO, but was missing some critical information at the time which could have prevented his completely avoidable death.

Yeah, this is the ideas section for a beta game. I am basically being told "deal with it" when the game is a work in progress just as any MMO is even if it's not in beta. Also, a game needs to retain players for it to remain fun. I'm trying to offer a suggestion because if things like this so easily wipe out a week's worth of effort then I don't see how the game is going to retain new players and I went into this realizing it was "hardcore" and had permadeath. I personally have no desire to continue playing after this but I might give it another shot later. It's so demoralizing to be defeated by a plot of land and not even through mortal combat, lol.

FYI you should also refer to me with feminine pronouns. I know my name is masculine but I am a girl. Now you know. Tee ***** hee.

No, that'd be fine. I just wouldn't want it to come up every time that I was about to do a crime, as the OP suggested. It needs to be minimal but otherwise visual and audio alerts are a great way to ensure that players realize what they're doing.
