Really just wasting your own time since it won't change. There have been so many posts and threads about it that it's laughable anyone would still think it'd suddenly be different somehow.

As i said this is not a troll. You are free to post ideas and but in this case its set in stone that permadeath is a core mechanic of salem and will never change. We have been around the devs for a few years now and have a fairly good idea on how they feel about this. Just watch any of the live streams and search for similar topics on this.

gonna go ahead and add this little baby from the dev's website.

Its not argument "no because no". I dont want to change game mechanic, proposition is only to give people option to choose server with rule they like to play. Games who want have commercial success must give large range spectrum of diffrent type players, siting with fanboys in number of 100 online is not any great thing. Game have good potential and it will be waste if because bad decision this title dont reach higher.

Solution is easy, and satisfying for everyone. Reorganize servers to three with diffrent rules:
- easy (with only pve)
- medium (with pvp and without perm death)
- hard (with pvp and with perm death)

There is nothing to afraid of in this, at this post I stop answering. Untill someone dont give me good contr-argument against this idea.

permadeath is a core game mechanic that the devs love and they have stated so, repeatedly. this is not the first time this has been suggested and it won't be the last. the answer will continue to be "no".

Removing permadeath is removing one of the core mechanic of the game. Without permadeath people will play this game for a couple weeks and just quit because there is no reason to play at all because they have everything and there is no reason to advance at all. Removing permadeath means they would have to gut a majority of the game because it is useless.

You are not fixing anything.

The problem with trying to do this is that the game is not set up for a simple switch from PVP to PVE. There are a lot of games out there full of monsters and things to kill in which the character itself and it's equipment are all you have in the game. That makes it really easy to switch between PVE and PVP.

But while Characters in Salem are very valuable, so are the bases they live in. Raiding those bases is a core mechanic of the game. If you try to switch to PVE, you take away more than half of the game. Not just the actual combat, but the raiding as well and also the defense of your base. It becomes a game where you simply raise purity on seeds, craft some stuff, get a bunch of skills and suddenly find there's nothing left to do, and no risk at all.

If you try to leave raiding in without permadeath then no one can defend themselves against attack effectively. There's nothing really to lose if the raider can't die while raiding and no way to kill a really strong player that's terrorizing people. One group gets strong, they'll stay strong forever because no one can be killed. And, while the strongest might plateau after a time, that leaves the new players in a very bad position of having to play catch up.

Currently, with permadeath, it's hard on people who aren't careful, but it's even harder on the raiders. Farmers spend most of their time fairly safe inside walls. The can't be summon killed if they don't leave scents and it's hard to kill them when meeting them in the wilderness if they're smart enough to be aware of their environment and just run away. Raiders, on the other hand, die all the time when fighting people or raiding bases when they mess up and get murdered, or they are summon killed by other raiders. And when they're killed, that's a setback for the people who made them and helps keep things balanced.

There are already several of these threads. If you really must discuss this then take it to one of those.
