trees like all plants can and do grow close together. more so if they are planted by people like shrub hedges and other types of privacy treewalls.

while its not uncommon for trees to grow from 2 or more saplings in to a single tree it is a little rare so you do not see it commonly in more civilized areas. the more rural the place the better chance you will find joined plants, i personally had a pinetree outfront of my house that was 2 trunks in 1 as well as seen pine trees and other variants that either grew insanely large or conjoined several trees in to 1.

the only reason trees in salem work as a wall is because the game does not give trees an open hit box around the trunk for you to "walk" through. same is true for drying racks we cant walk through empty ones even though clearly we should beable to.

besides i happen to love my birch tree wall im making its pretty :|

I'm sure it's very realistic to be able to have treewalls and all but the thing is that they do not make sense from a gamplay perspective. It is not logical that a wall of trees should be a better defense than a wall.

You're thinking what we have in-game are "walls" when they're really just large fences, something one could, in theory, quickly jump or scale over with little or no equipment. Think more like the stone walls that you see around mansions or gated communities. A front-loader would easily plow through one, a couple of properly placed cannon shots would dismantle it, and a day's work with a sledge hammer would crumble it.

Does it really make sense that trees planted in this manner could make a secure wall for people trying to walking past? No, not really, but they could hamper proper working areas making it harder to demo an intruding obstacle.

Darwoth:

I think your point would have gone a lot futher if your wording would less ..."intense"
It's not what you say, it's how you say it that makes people listen.
