Very Simple.

Step #1: Pay 200-400 silver for treaty (10 cricket teams or less).
Step #2: Build 4-6 smelters and begin making 12 Iron Bars an hour.
Step #3: Spent your first month in the Treaty spending 4 hours a night making iron bars. 30X4 = 120*12 = 1,440 Iron Bars
Step #4: Trade the Tribe your 1,440 Iron Bars for enough food to make a 300-500 Humour Character (approx 1/2 of a harvest for us).

Boom. A simple way for you to have 500 humours in less than a month spending 4 hours a day. Your welcome.

I wouldn't bother if I were you. I do not see this game evolving to the point where somebody who couldn't figure out how to smelt bars and pay a treaty is going to ever have a bright future. Even Eegore from Eegore Vids has a video tutorial on how to be successful and leverage the Tribe. This game is not designed for you to be completely ignorant to the politics and mechanics and yet still be successful. They are mutually exclusive.

This is a neat assumption that new players know what they're doing. The problem with it is that new players don't know what they're doing. They don't know about the tribe, they don't know about humours, they don't really know how gluttony works, they sure as heck don't know what purity food is yet, they don't know how to mine, they don't know an awful lot about the game.

You're glazing over the inherit flaws with the game because you really like griefing other players, which is fine, everyone griefs other players. The problem is that in this game, when a new player who spent a fair deal of time getting to where they were gets wiped out, there's a very high probability that they'll just quit (at least for a while before they give it another try).

But really, I just want to find a good multiplayer sandbox/crafting/economy game that has the potential to live up to Ultima Online in its glory days.

staxjax wrote:Yeah, I don't really understand what you are asking for...noob protection or something? That is never going to happen. If you get raided and ragequit you dont really learn anything. Even when new servers open up, and you decide to give it a go again, you will still be behind other players because you don't have the skill or experience as other people. With new servers, there will be people that have murder and 60+ humours after just a few days of grinding and foraged foods. Maybe you guys don't like to grind or something, I dont know...but that would explain having only 10 braziers after playing for a month.

I'm not really asking for anything. Mostly just sharing our 4 week experience with the game. Being that it's in beta, I figure feedback would be somewhat appreciated. And really I see this as an inherent flaw with the game. If new players can never get started, how can the game grow?

And your assumption that a new player does NOT know what they are doing is equally appalling to me. There are MULTIPLE threads in MULTIPLE sections explaining how the Treaty & Tribe work. There is a guide written by Sevenless and a wealth of Youtube videos from several players showcasing how to play the game. If you are STILL hellbent on just hopping into the game there is a large city RIGHT OFF THE BOSTON CLAIM known as The Reservation with free stuff and free classes from the most powerful organization in the game. Numerous times throughout the day there is somebody on a Vision Quest explaining the benefits of the Reservation and the Tribe for those who just sit in Boston. Then... there is a guy in a head-dress who runs around the world scalping you if you refuse to go to the forums and educate yourself about the game and its politics.

You yourself admitted that you knew about the Tribe and Treaty yet made the conscious decision to doom yourself, your base, and your friends by failing to comply with the justice system of the server. Failure to educate yourself on the rules and laws of the society you live in has never and will never be a defense that will hold up in court. You are attempting to take the horrible decision YOU personally made in the game and somehow overlay it against all new players, when in fact, the majority of new players simply pay the Treaty and have a completely different experience than you do.

There are close to 20,000 registered forum users. There are maybe 24 threads similar to yours. You are the bottom 1% of the lowest 1% who was too dumb to pay the Treaty. Therefore, your feelings and experiences are that a minority hardly worth catering to. I'm sorry.

Cool, so the tribe isn't over powered, you just have to play by the tribe's rules or they wipe you out. Gotcha. It all makes sense now.

I thought that was pretty common knowledge. And yes we are overpowered due to the fact that we are superior gamers with superior play times and superior commitments to the game we play. If you want to be the big dog then put in the work. If you don't want to put in the work then play by our rules. It sounds like you started playing after the dark days of Gallows but trust me this game was a lot worse when there was an organization raiding, stealing, and killing without any way to get off their radar. Be thankful that you have the opportunity to live under such a benevolent organization.

Mushbag R.I.P. Battle of BTk.
Mushibag 2 R.I.P. Battle of BTK.
Mushibag 3 R.I.P Battle of Gallows
Mushibag 4 R.I.P Battle of TradyMctrades.

Some people define retardation by the inability to learn from your mistakes. Losing 4 characters might classify you as retarded by said definition although I would just go with Stubborn, Foolish, or Reckless.

We started 4 weeks ago to the day, we found out about the tribe 6 days ago, when you PMed me on the forums. We had no clue that there is a reservation that helps new players within walking distance from Boston... We were newbs. Newbs that got wiped out after playing for 4 weeks. We had fun, it was a fun game. But ya, a game that allows for one small group of people to dominate and then dictate the rules there-forth, making it impossible for people to play outside their dictated rules (I think that's called a dictatorship) isn't really the kind of game we're looking for right now.

Overall, Salem is a cool game and it is unique. I like the ideas behind the game, but I'm not thrilled with the current state of the game or how difficult it is for new players to get started. Perhaps in a few months we'll give it another go, but for now, back to searching for a new game for us.

So I think what you are really trying to tell people before you quit is that they should pay the Tribe in 5 days or less.

Yes, sure. If people want to play on Plymouth, and they're new, they should contact the tribe to start making payments and so they can learn the rules and play with maybe less chance of being crushed.
