Nobody cares, Myrdred. This update is meant to reduce the currently overpowered effectiveness of spamming walls right next to each other. Did you think that they were going to supe up both braziers and walls (or you seemed to forgot that they were buffed awhile back?), all the while expressing their disdain for wall spam, and not do anything to level the playing field a bit for the agressors?

So they added some special effects to braziers to make the raiding experience more unpredictable, and tried to cutback on the amount of time that would be needed to destroy walls while being under brazier fire the entire time. I don't really see the problem, although it is a bit unrealistic, it could be they just want us testing the splash mechanic for future more realistic siege updates. They made it a tiny bit easier, and much more riskier to attack well defended bases now.

oh I know, i don't expect it. It's just what I said, wall spaming will continue, just with a new base design.

As for myself i think I'm going to take a break from Salem.

ok, I need to step back a tad on some of my earlier criticism (complaints?).

I have been working on destroying my interior stone wall and replacing it with a plank wall. With the changes I decided to try to make the best of what I though was a bad thing and plow ahead with the project. I went out and gathered up a bunch of flint and grabbed a few extra boards for repairs, and also kept on hand supplies to rebuild any potential breaches in the outer wall, or the nearby plank wall. I did make a change to my past routine though, instead of destroying and then rebuilding as I went I ended up destroying a long chunk of wall, and then going back and building a stretch of plank behind it after I was clear of the blast radius.

With about a dozen wall segments destroyed, it seems that virtually all the time there was lateral damage along the same wall, and penetrating damage to the adjacent wall only occurred some of the time (I should have counted, but I did not use near as much flint as anticipated). At no point was an entire wall segment destroyed, most of the damage seemed to be between 70 and 85%, and at most was just the closest wall segments.

Now there still are things which I did not/do not like, for one I felt very vulnerable while I was doing this, My initial reaction was contemplating a need to build an entirely new wall a few tiles out so as to maintain security for the overhaul. Before I did this I tested a few segments out, and determined it was certainly not worth the hassle. The other thing I do not like, and I have not dealt with this one (yet) is that I feel my exterior stone wall is now a vulnerability and will have to eventually come down - that one will be a pain in the butt to deal with since I will have to have a huge stockpile of dry boards on hand to repair as I gom and will also require the creation of an entirely new wall to feel at my most secure. Still a lot of work ahead as a result of these changes.

But as for now, I made a huge amount of progress on the project at hand. I still feel that the damage that a lesser type of wall does to a superior wall should be either eliminated or reduced to say 10% damage or so. As it stands now, they are a liability and a weakness.

So why did they boost wall HP in the first place?
with the new splash update the walls is like they were in the first place just that now the first wall takes 2 minutes longer to hit down, then its easier then butter.
before it was all butter.
wallspam might be wrong but for weaker factions that extra HP and a few walls tight together made a big diffrence in making a fight more even vs high humor characters.

Me myself, i don't care i use a stick fence+ a bell for 2.5k and run around raiding untill a waste claim is made, then i just move my leanto to a new fence made out of sticks that my alt constructed in 20 minutes and buy a new bell because 2.5k u get by raiding 1,2 claims
We never left, We just lay low and the lower we lay we stay connected and make dough.

id like to put in an odd request.. even at an increase to costs.. but can you please recode the wallpaper to be a instant wall fill tool instead of the single tile filler it currently is.

you only get 10 wall segments from 1 wallpaper roll my pilgram house is about 14 tiles which means i have to make 2 wall paper rolls just to do 1 house, seeing as pilgrams are smallest houses i could see people requiring upwards of 4 rolls. while they arent overly hard to make, it just seems wasteful to have to make 1 more roll when you only need 1-3 more papers.

so is it possible to make it that you right click the roll on the bare wall and it fills the whole house on that level?? as i really dont want to have to move my cupboards to paint those walls (those arent the easiest to reset in place how i have them either)

i wouldnt mind if it cost more to make wallpaper or cost more to buy from npc, if they auto filled the whole room of the house :/

just a small request on wallpapers is all..

oh is there any plans to include a display tooltip of the wallpaper you can craft?? the cliff wallpaper is not as nice as i thought it would be wish i had known what it looked like via a tool tip popup prior to making a roll lol

Wall fill would be nice for redecorating your house without messing up your cupboard layout.

So I tested last night after the splash was reduced and was able to build a split rail fence post outside of my friends claim destroyed it and I it dealt the splash and destroyed his first layer of 3 stone walls then built another starter post destroyed it and there goes his second layer and same with the third so I was able to get through 3 layers of stone wall without leaving a scent or activating any braziers just by building and destroying wooden fences so obviously they need to either make it so you can't build within the 3 tile radius that you can't claim near other claims or make it so lower tier walls don't affect higher tourer walls although then you could do the same thing with stone starter posts without any worry of Braziers till you can just run in and destroy them

This updates to walls is pretty bad, especially since it punishes people who have existing wall setups. It would be more reasonable if the surrounding walls only took like 20% damage and that higher tier walls were not damaged by the destruction of nearby lower tier walls.

I'm pretty butthurt because my fortress i just finished has 1 plank fence on inside, then a stone fence, and then two side-rail fences on the outside, i designed it specifically for the way braziers work(ed). Now some jackass can run up to my side-rail fence, demolish it and they punch a hole through my stone and plank fences effortlessly.

Also this system almost encourages raiders to demolish our entire fence as well. Before it was way too much hassle to do more than just break a hole through the fence. Sure they might have demolished what was inside, but they would leave the fence alone. now they can just punch one area of fence and destroy the rest of the fence without any effort at all. With how expensive it is to make plank fences, I don't think it is fair for someone to be able to demolish the entire thing in the time it takes them to destroy a single segment.
