Ok, this splash damage is very very annoying. I have been hard at work for about a week tearing down a stone wall to replace it with an interior plank wall. Now the stone wall on the outside is rendered obsolete, and what was a strength in my wall design has now became a weakness.
On top of this it is taking me forever to remove the old stone wall and replace it with plank as it is, now suddenly when I destroy a segment of stone wall the newly installed plank wall behind it gets decimated? My board supply was limiting as it is (with 8 stacks at a go drying) now I either have to leave my wall vulnerable by not installing replacement wall as I go, or waste extra dry boards out of my supply.
All around I find this change bringing in splash damage to be very painful indeed. At least if you are going to implement this give us a way to tear down and replace our walls (which in many cases are obsolete) without decimating the rest of our wall defense through self inflicted collateral damage.
P.S. I know many have already rode this ***** train, but we could really really use a way to tear down our own constructs (especially walls) with significantly less tedium - it really should not take 24 hours of in game work hours just to destroy our walls in order to replace them (this is based upon an approximation of 10 mins/wall destroy time, and ~36 x 36 claim - and does not even take into account hours of time spent producing food or materials to support the overhaul).
edit: yes the brazier changes are nice and mitigate the weakness in the wall design; however to insure I use the walls to the best of their potential (which I can get obsessive about) would require me to destroy and replace yet another layer of fence around my claim - not to mention the need to stop work on the interior demo/replace project I have halfway completed in order to expand my claim even further out to build a completely new fence in order to maintain integrity of my base defense during the overhaul (this won't work on the side on the river

). My goal has just became much farther off, and I really do not think I have it in me to start travelling down the long road ahead that just suddenly appeared. I am half tempted to shelve the game, my reward i was closing in on has been yanked from my reach just as I started approaching it.
