A couple questions on Buying Selling & Trading

I have come to the point in my Salem life where buying is a must. I am starting to produce items of value I would like to sell and trade. In short I am ready to become part of the Salem economy but have a few questions that I still don't fully understand.

1) It is my understanding that the Barrels in town are designed for trading from person to person. I have read up on the subject quite a bit. I understand there is a way that both parties should stand in a certain position in order to minimize barrel theft during transaction. What I don't understand is the actual transaction. Correct me if I am wrong, Both parties drop the trade and then pickup the traded item? what defense do I have against said parties from just grabbing both items?
2) During a barrel trade is there an etiquette that should be followed?
3) In town there are stalls with blue roofs. In those stalls are a number of items all different kinds types and prices. Is that player items? Is that NCP generated items? Can I use these stalls myself to sell my products? How do I use them? NOTE: not the white stalls that sell town charters etc but the blue ones.
4) Do you have any experience that would aid me in a safe trade that seems to work for you? I understand that sooner or later I will lose my hard earned coin but anything I can do to help reduce this would be greatly appreciated.

I know this subject has been discussed here and I have read a great amount on the internet regarding this, however the game is forever changing and some that I have read has been conflicting. I would like to see up to date solid answers so I have the absolute best chance at successful trade. Thanks for your time in advance.

1. There are no safeguards against scamming when trading in barrels.
2. Some say items first, then money. I usually just dump the items and the money as soon as the other party is aligned with barrel to show good faith.
3. Blue stalls are player owned. They cost 5000 silver when they were available. None are available right now.
4. Be polite. Ask customers to kin you so you knwo who they are. Trade with traders on the forums.

as an easy rule, just start out trading with people in the "trader's wind" part of these forums. As you will notice most of them have quite some posts of successfull trades, and they'll probably ask you to post one too. Most traders there have much to lose with their reputation.
I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.

You should start with trading with people who post on the tradewind and have testimonials that they are trustworthy.

Kin people before you trade so you know who you are dealing with. You can dekin after if you don't want them to know when you're online.

If you're trading with someone well known, you put the items or money in the barrel first, not them.

If you're nervous, you can trade items one or a few at a time, though some people won't want to take the time to split the silver over and over. You might have to take a chance here and there, but once you trade with someone, you know you can probably trade with them safely again.

Be careful just trading with someone who has a name you are familiar with because names can be reused so the person you are talking to might not be who you think it is. Contact traders via PM on the forum and arrange a trade if you're afraid of scammers pretending to be trusted traders.

Don't whine if you get scammed, posting a thread naming someone a scammer is ok, but whining won't get you anywhere. Always remember that there is a chance of getting scammed. Therefore you should only trade valuable items with people who you know to be trustworthy. But in my experience scamming does not occur very frequently.
