Wow, you guys are taking the realism thing a bit far. This IS a game. So there have to be systems that mimic real life, yet are extremely simplified. My problem with waste claims was the complete lack of any basis in reality. It was simply a code bandaid trying to solve a balancing issue.

Claims are also far from reality yet nobody is crying they are bad, so why people can't understand concept of anti-claims?

I dont follow. Claims are a decent system of representing property owned by someone.

Yes, you claim land only by your will and choice, so when someone is making waste-claim it is like he would disagree with you and after you both gather in same place you can start to "talk" about rightful ownership of this land :)

If people are going to argue over ownership of land then people are going to argue that Indians own it. lol

And here I was getting hopeful for my future in Salem. Are you guys ever going to realize that the ease which established players can curbstomp new ones is directly limiting your player base? Setting up mechanics to screw those of us who don't feel like sustaining a 40 hours/week Salem habit long term just seems extraordinarily short sighted.

As someone who's already played through four Haven and Hearth world resets, It's still hard to want to play Salem knowing full well that someones going to come and punch down my walls every few days because there's something growing in the fields. Rather than raiding be a case of risk vs reward, you can blow through someones walls so fast you'd be hard pressed to accomplish as much doing anything else in as little time.

Really disappointed.

I'm not sure I understand. By making your walls and defenses stronger they're screwing you over? If you're a casual raider trying to hit a town they certainly have made your job harder, yes. Otherwise the primary mechanic here is that towns take a day to raid.

They did not make walls and defenses stronger, they made them weaker. They didn't make it harder for raids to happen, they just made it take longer for it to happen.
