I actually prefer the mid game, setting up your settlement, buying and learning new skill and things to craft at a reasonable rate, building houses, smelters, walls. Unless you count that under the first 4 hours, I sure don't. :/

Yes, I think too that mid game is most fun.
First 4h is time when new people learn how to build leanto and learn first 10 skills it is very boring imho.

I agree in the beginning there should be goals with rewards to get people motivated past the most dullest part of the game; learning those rudimentary skills.

Something like, finish XYZ, be given plan/materials to build hovel ? Be given plan to build compost bin ? To get the ball rolling how things work.

This kind of generosity in games goes really far in ensuring new players stay around longer than normal, to give the game a chance at least.

First 4 hours weren't bad cause I was totally ignorant of how boring the rest of it all was gonna be.

nah it's jorbs way of toughning you up for the harsh road to survival.

you need to stop focusing so much on where you'd like to be and enjoy the road to getting there.
What's the difference between starting at 500 or 1500 except for truncating content?

if it's a pain in the ass i think your playing it wrong. quit thinking you should be a super hero after day 5.

I honestly wouldn't expect new players to understand that it's a sandbox game after a series of quest even if explicitly told by the NPCs.

Reminds me of how new players in H&H sometimes thought their primary source of LP was discovering new items, instead of studying curios.

Edit: I would like to see this if it could be implemented in a way that isn't too confusing to new players.

And while on the topic of beginning learning, I feel the help menu texts should be more concise, and with more direct vocabulary. I understand jorb wants to maintain a professionalism of the text, but I feel most players don't even read them because they are so long winded, and are generally confusing. I read the agriculture one and thought no new players would understand it at all.

Agreed, I completely ignored it an went online to read about it from other players. Still confusing at first but atleast I could read the blasted guides.
Honestly the quests to start don't even tell you what to do basically, give no grasp of the game and can be frustrating. I spent the first 5 facking hours playing confused and trying to find milkweed in a place it normally isn't because I thought I had to either find a grass whistle or craft one myself. Gald I stuck with it now, but it frankly p*ssed me off to start. I suggest revamping the guides and beginner start, but don't make them quests. Quests turn this into just another mmo as you stated and players won't understand this is an open world sandbox game.

I agree....if they add another 1,000 to what you need to buy skills to counter the gain. It's a facking game thats semi realistic. You aren't gonna start off as superman with over half the prociencies you need to buy skills, and if they start you off that high you have worked for nothing, defeating the purpose of playing. If you truely feel that way maybe this game isn't for you and you should go play wow where you can hit level 20 in an hour and a half and have uber gear within a week.
