Destroying my own stuff

Postby Chrysillis » Tue Aug 21, 2012 4:16 pm

I made a small mistake in the placement of my fence. I was trying to build a gate and forgot you had to build 2 corner posts.
Now I am trying to demolish the links but it is taking me forever because I am lower level.
Can you add some kind of feature that allows us to quickly or instantly demolish our own structures?
This would also apply to buildings and other structures.
If we misplace a house, or we need to tear down part of our settlement for expansion purposes, it can take just as much if not far more, in the case of fences, resources and effort to correct an error in placement.

Lets play devil's advocate here. What if a spy gets into your town/settlement? With low humours they could tear a hole in the wall with a very little effort/character development. Boom, your place is open to being raided.

We're assuming the bonus applies to anyone with vandal rights on the claim (otherwise the claim owner would need to do everything, and that has its own problems)
It's been neat to see the evolution of a game. Salem has come so far, and still has far to go. Although frustrating, I think it's been an experience worth the effort.

What if this "disassemble" action required some significant time? Something close to chopping a tree for dismantling a split-rail fence. Stronger players would simply break it, weaker players might prefer disassembling.

That actually sounds like a good idea. It could represent the care being taken to avoid completely destroying the materials used, and the action could give back ~50% of the materials. It'd probably take longer than actually building the structure. Like, half construction speed maybe (as in it takes twice as long)? It'd still be short for something like a wall segment, but much longer for something like a house.

It still leaves a village open to being screwed over hard by a spy if this can be applied to walls. If it applies to anything except walls I'd be fine with it.

To combat this exact problem, in some of my own projects we were working on the concept of "blueprints" that would be created when a wall or defensive structure was created. Whoever holds the blueprints can basically ignore all soak and deal massive damage to anything they have the design for, (blueprints being specific to each wall segment, but also compilable into a single item or whatnot). Like a very special key/keyring, you could say. The item itself lets leaders or builders remove problem walls or mistakes, while not presenting a security threat unless the blueprints themselves are stolen.

Not a bad concept, but it's a hulluva clutter when you consider each wall piece in Salem is a seperate building. Would need tweaking to consider it here, but it sounds like overkill to me for Salem anyway.

Just add option in the village menu for permission to deconstruct.

Lot of people asking for this only have a Pclaim. I'm assuming you'd want this option given to pclaims as well then?

It was just a possible solution. Personally, I don't see the need to make destroying stuff any easier. Get more phlegm, imo.
