Yes, the devs could have done this all in a browser. Why would you want to limit the quality of your client that way, though? What advantages does making it browser based give you? First, you suck up tons of overhead by simply requiring a browser to be open in the first place. You lose tons of control over what you can and can't do across the network and the client computer. Have I satisfied you yet or shall I go on? There are websites that explain all this much better than I can. I'm a programmer, but not a greatly experienced one. I'll tell you that in my little experience, avoid using the browser if you don't need it.

I think you'll find that the only browser based Java apps out there are small ones that don't do much (or rather may do a lot but aren't graphically complex). They certainly aren't games. Pretty much all the browser based games out there utilize PHP or other scripting language to generate HTML or ActionScript (Flash). While these have great applications out there, they have limitations in what you can and can't do.

Seriously i know this sounds stupid, but it really seems that most of this player base and most of all the players from HnH want everything handed to them on a platter and are spoiled beyond all hell for how easy the mods make this game to play. "I refuse to play without XXXXXXXXXX", kind of pathetic and childish if you ask me.

@ L33LEE - I wish you wouldn't constantly slag off all or 'most' of the hnh players, I find it really irritating, you seem to manage to get it in somewhere in a lot of your posts.

What is it you're so jealous of?

I manage fine with the default client and have been playing on it since I started, it needs improvement and for some reason since the last update I can no longer zoom out but, otherwise, I don't have a problem with it.

(I'm hnh btw)

What's even more insulting is that you admit yourself that you use Enders! What a hypocrite!

Yep i use enders, what is it the mods say ? Abuse the ***** out of the game untill its fixed, because untill its fixed, its legal ? So why would i put myself at a huge disadvantage against the rest of the community ?

When mods are made illegal to use, ill happily use the base client, were as im sure most of the old HnH players will refuse this new rule, still use underground clients or just quit. (I still use the base client from time to time, its still really nice to use) (The only remaining problems i have with the base client, is being unable to see other players on mini map, size of mini map, lack of camera control, no building grid, If all of these were fixed/added, i can assure you, i would delete enders from my computer and use the base client, even if mods were still legal)

Why the hate on HnH players ? Well, got to hate someone ?

I would compare the current graphical quality of Salem to runescape in HD its pretty close. Yes i know there are limitations, thank you for pointing them out, but personally i would rather have the game browser based, or at least more secure.

I know this has probably been mentioned before but what about portable PC platforms such as touch screen devices and OS's like andriod and windows mobile. Surely the game can do no wrong being available on these devices which are increasingly becoming more popular and generating a large part of online digital market sales.

the game wouldn't run on them even if it were in a browser, hope this helps. even if it did... the interface wouldn't be usable.

Well, since you mentioned it, no, you don't have to hate on anyone. It's a choice. When done right, you're just making an ass out of yourself. When done wrong, you're making yourself look like a complete ass hat.

Yes, I do agree on quality. You're missing the "quantity" factor, though. I abhor the game so haven't really looked at it other than reading about the big graphic upgrade they gave it, which was still pretty low end in both resolution and polygon/texel count. However, Runescape is quite limited in what it does and doesn't do. Being browser based also doesn't make it any more secure than Salem or any other Java based client game, either. There's a ton of hacks out there for anything if you know what you're looking for.

Justifying it to yourself does not make it any less hypocritical.

Mhm. Quite a few of your posts say otherwise, but ok. :)

I appreciate the admission though - means I can ignore what you say on the subject in future. :D
