Postby Mrx » Thu Jan 24, 2013 10:50 pm

Hi, I just got a key for Salem yesterday and I've been getting the Haven error after I click "create new character"

This is the error I get ..

I've disabled triple buffering, turned my firewall and peerblock off, tried using java 6 and 7 and cleared my java cache. None of which have worked
Thanks for you time I hope you have better luck at solving my problem than me. Looking forward to playing the game.

Cheers,

One thing you can try, that helped my own random crashing issues is this:

Go to the java control panel and clear your cache.
Go to the Uninstall Programs menu, and uninstall Salem.
Go to "C:\Users\YourName\" and delete the .salem folder.
Completely uninstall Java from your computer
If using Windows, do a search on your computer for "salem" and delete any files you find, my PC had a few in the AppData/Roaming folders.

Restart your computer.

Re-download the appropriate Java for your system, and re-install it.
Either install using the default client, or install the Ender's client located here: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=50 - you may want to try both if crashing issues persist.
Hopefully, this helps and fixes your issues.

Uninstalling Java probably isn't necessary. The Java Web Start launcher doesn't have any method for validating downloads so they can get corrupted in the middle without knowing. Odds are just clearing the cache and downloading again will fix the issue. Note that it might take a couple of tries. If that doesn't seem to work, then you might want to go through the effort of a clean Java install.

You should also check your network connections for any issues and make sure to shut down anything you might have running in the background. If a couple of retries doesn't work, you might want to check with your service provider about the quality of your connection. I had a really rough connection with my cable provider at one point because of storm damage to the line that wasn't repaired properly.

I done exactly what you suggested imrielle and I'm still getting the same error.

@Magicman
Should I redownload java or salem?

I've used java to play many other games and it's never failed me.
I'll give the ender client a go..

Nevermind guys I'm getting errors for everything now. Can't even open the modded client. I'll come back to this game when it's not in beta..
