It is a bit slower process than typical downloads. First, how far is the progress going? It can be slow depending on your computer, what you have running, and connection.
Do you have anything running in the background? Make sure other programs are closed and you don't have anything such as file torrents, other downloaders, etc.
Is your security configured properly for Java programs? Make sure everything is set up correctly. Make sure that Java programs, specifically Salem, can access the Internet. You'll need to check your router, too. Sometimes default configurations end up blocking ports that Salem uses. Make sure that ports TCP 1871 and UDP 1870 are open. Also, a couple of security suites have caused direct interference with Salem. If you're running Comodo or ESET, there may be specific things you can do to fix it.
