A combination of both. Staffan asked me to do another playthrough of the starting experience and I thought "that sounds like fun and I can probably give some good feedback". :)

In a MMO Chat really should be considered a Core Feature, While Gameplay will keep people interested in the short to mid term its the Community that keeps people playing in the long term. If people cant communicate, Even if its to sling insults at each other, that sense of community can easily be lost. Having a Friendly and useable chat goes a long way twards' helping in this aspect, Take a look around at other social games and see how they have handled chat windows and grouping, a lot of time effort and thought has gone into many of those systems. And, For the love of god, let us resize the font, not all of use have 20/20 vision even with glasses/contacts.

I would like 2 different types of village chat tabs tbh, but this must be done on a much better kind of chat UI for it to work well.

A public one, for non members + members and is only intractable why on the village claim.
and a privet one for members only

This will allow people who wonder into your village boundrys the ability to talk to people inside. (If the village members decide to answer) This will work well with people you have kinned / tagged, as you will see their name as they enter the village and say hi to see if people are home .
