I tend to build a farm and do some low tech stuff without metal and then move on when I get bored. I will soon move on again, maybe someone want to take over my place. Good for a noob I guess.

One thing that is starting to get to me, and I think this is a sign, is that everything remains a hurdle even long after you supposedly accomplished whatever it is you accomplished - for instance, collecting money for an expensive tool or whatever. All it takes is one crazy mother f... beaver to knock you out, be teleported to your homestead (of all places instead of "Boston"), lag out because the game doesn't load in "Boston", and return to the spot of the "crime" to see the place looted.

I lost a metal shovel. It wouldn't have been a big deal if it didn't cost 200-300 silver or required a rather functional camp with mining operations. I really don't want to kill crickets for cricket teams after having played 5 weeks. I should be beyond that point by now.

I don't carry expensive tools when out wandering for just this reason. If it's not safe to leave lying around your camp, it's definitely not safe in your backpack. If concerns are that much over losing it, use an alt for storage.

To note, dropped items do have a limited time to live on the ground. The best anyone can pinpoint so far is around 5 minutes or less depending on item. Some items last only a minute or so.

I have started spamming alts now. One for each "task". It makes me wonder how many people really enjoy the whole knocked out/permadeath deal when so many use alts and recommend alts (yes, I have seen the topic about it elsewhere). :?

Only alts I have used are either for combat or for aimless wandering. I know it isn't really the ideal intention of permadeath, but it's not against the rules and it's the only way to be semi-competitive.

Well, hate to say this as I just got a key and haven't even played yet, but the very first thing I noticed was the very high prices on items in the store. This got me thinking, WTH, is this just about making some quick $$$, because they have perma-death and I'd think you'd better be able to protect your gear - better check out the forums for answers. Then in the forums I see quite a few posts about how the game is unbalanced (primarily) and bugged - doesn't matter if you even need the items to advance or not, the fact that there are so many complaints about losing your gear so easily has already killed any chance of me actually playing it now - unbalanced PvP is sort of a game-killer for me.

Welcome to beta testing. Nothing is set in stone and, if you care to, read through announcements. Bugs get fixed here. Sometimes it's quickly, other times not as fast as we'd like.

If you want "balanced" PvP, check out the variety of MOBAs out there, FPS, or RTS games. MMOs will never present balanced PvP. There's just too many variables and something will tip the scales.

With all games there is always 1 class "better" at pvp depending on the patch. Salem isn't going to be any different.

Honestly, out of all MMO's played, this games store is very reasonable.
