Dont say you are from the Vatican. Very few people live there.

You should have said that you were Russian, then play along from there.

To answer your previous question, yes, I had him memorized. Also, they arn't neighbors of ours, they were from "far" away (over 20 map screens). They live in the darkness. As for being unfriendly, I was reasonably friendly for a 4 (8 total) sentence conversation, but I completely disagree with your sense of net etiquette. Asking RL questions about people you've just met, you haven't even introduced yourself to, and whose in-game name you don't even know is outrageously rude. Demanding an answer when someone clearly doesn't want to tell you is beyond rude. If you can't see that, I do not see any point debating it with you.

Anyway, I feel like my original question has been answered. Thanks to (almost) everyone for their feedback 8).

Asking where you are from is not rude. Firstly, one could be trying to figure out what language you speak to know if they can communicate properly with you. Some people don't speak English and some don't speak it well. Secondly, if I'm getting to know someone, it's a friendly question to ask where someone is from so you can then broaden your conversation. How's the weather doesn't work.

Then you could say something to the effect of "Do you speak Russian?"

Anyway, it seems there are a few people at least who think this is totally normal, friendly behavior. We'll just have to agree to disagree.
