Suggestion: Upgradeable Wall Types via Iron Bar + Purity

Postby badmp3 » Thu Jan 03, 2013 7:59 pm

Greetings

Suggestion: Upgradeable Wall Types via Iron Bar + Purity

Each Wall type has a standard value for HP / Soak, I dont know how much that is but my suggestion is to have all the different wall types to have a upgrade option that involves Iron Bars + Purity.

The higher the Iron Bar Purity the bigger HP / Soak Multipler goes, making walls alot stronger!

Thanks

I dont think you understand how much iron would be needed for large groups of players

I think higher tier walls will fix this. However, I would like the ability to reinforce other buildings. What I liked in Salem at first was that after raider broke through your walls he still couldn't nuke / take everything for free. Which made raids less devastating - raiders took most precious stuff, but you still could continue to play.
But as the stats kept growing it returned to the HnH way - enemies break into your place and can almost instantly destroy anything.

So, while walls and stats will continue to scale up, standard infrastructure will not and will be increasingly squishy. But imagine if you could craft reinfercements and apply them to objects to increase their soak value or HP. Or maybe have "reinforce" command, which would work similarly to repair and would require materials specific to each building. Such action would increase building's HP over its maximum. This way people could use materials to add some extra protection to their buildings. Maybe raiders would give up on destroying if they had to spend 3x more time than usual on destroying this smelter...

I like the idea of using iron or other items to upgrade buildings or walls. However I do not like including purity in it. I think as was previously stated, you could simply have an upgrade option similar to repair. You could upgrade buildings or walls to have a higher soak value. (I still think buildings shouldn't be so easy to destroy in the first place)

Cries when cheap walls are too low on soak (imbalance !!!)
Cries when a really strong wall would cost loads of mats..

You don't think current walls are weak? You don't use tree walls, stacking objects and using auth objects to make real walls?
Loads of mats isn't a solution to a problem.

I use legit wall setups, which makes them pretty strong ;-)

Walls are weak, I think this is well established. I like the idea of being able to reinforce buildings (and why not walls too). I do not see why purity should not help, as purity is a major end-game system. One could decry the purity system or call for an overhaul, but to make yet another feature that ignores it entirely would simply compound the problem.

Well, problem with purity here is that you might need many different materials to reinforce stuff, and only iron and stone has purity now. This would make some buildings naturally easier / better to reinforce than others. Of course you can make iron the common material for all reinforcements, but tbh... that's boring imo :)

As for the walls... I think that higher tier walls are the natural way to improve them. As you advance in the game and gain access to new materials you can build new and better walls. I proposed reinforcing as a way to upgrade your infrastructure, as it currently lacks such feature. So instead of adding new tiers (and graphics) of all those smelters, houses, kilns, ovens etc. and then having to destroy and rebuild them you would simply reinforce them.

***** no, or at least, not until better metal purity is implemented. Currently, forcing the players in to the monotonous mine hole grind is *****.
