this? just a bit.
Was reading Topia forums @ pre kickstarter period and abit after they kickstarted it.

http://forum.topiaonline.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=97

"Topia Online will have a one-time account fee $19.99 when the game launches. There will be no monthly fees. You will get access to 1 character slot per race on your account. You will be able to purchase additional character slots for a small fee rather than being forced to buy more accounts."

Even if I read this wrong and you'll be able to only buy more slots for other races..then it doesn't change the fact that you can easly gain enormous advantage by buying multiple accounts. Your char stays in-game 24/7. It's farming influence/resources nonstop. It's not like in other mmos where you have to play(or bot) your char/chars to gain anything. Here you just: set up script and when you grind enough you go rape your neighbours. Sure that 10 other ppl banded together might stop your 10 accounts. But nothing stops player(who wants to win badly) from getting even more and more accounts. It's good for developer but it's bad for players :P

I just don't see how developer can avoid stuff i mentioned above from happening. I might be wrong but that's how i see this game atm.

I have been told if you pledge $25 now, you receive a permanent account when the beta opens with several character slots. Seems like a good deal to me for only $5 more if you wanted to take advantage of that. As far as games with fees go, this one seems pretty low-cost compared to most.

I doubt that it will get me. I was having high hopes for it(even checked sandboxes/posted on forums) then I saw how you'll be able to get more chars.
As it is now, Topia is pay to win. Buy account for 25$(or was it 20?) and then unlock new char slots for 1-2$ each. If someone will drop 100-200$ to get 50-100 chars. He will have HUGE advantage over others. GG

(not to mention that paying 25$ for game and then still having to deal with micro transactions sounds really bad to me)

The part you are missing here is logistics.... You "do" realize that almost all races/monsters will have to both eat and drink to stay alive right? So lets say you "buy" 50 slots.... you are going to have to put 25 of those slots working to feed the other 25, but wait? how are they going to feed themselves? Also: This assumes that there are even enough resources where you are TO feed 100 characters, hirelings etc etc. Also also: You realize that of your 8 character slots, 7 are going to be monsters? Yeah, giant spiders aren;t gonna be chopping a whole lot of wood nor will wolves.

Almost ALL objections I've seen to this game are merely misunderstandings.....

Pity you didn't say anything about stuff I wrote in second post :P (multiple accounts issue)

'logistics' - I don't see a problem here. As Josh stated you'll be able to get your friends spawn at same obelisk as you. So if my friends (in theory) could get enough food/resources..why my other accounts/chars would not be able to do the same? As for races/monsters I do realize that there are multiple 'civilized' races and multiple monster races(from which many will get unlocked for accomplishing certain things in game). If you only can have one civilized char per account then thats 'news' for me. But if you can have multiple chars from civilized races then it shouldn't be hard to make em cooperate. Even if they'll make it so you can't play together with your other chars/spawn at your other char location..There always will be multiple accounts issue :P

There are other things I dislike in Topia. 'mybrute.com' style of combat is not something I like. My stats(and 3 scripts) vs their stats(and their 3 scripts). No real player skill involved. Just numbers. While some people might like it..I certainly don't.

To each their own! It looks like Loftar may be showing some interest in fixing Haven's lag so maybe Haven will be a possibility soon again..... I dunno.
