this is why using a set place and time when you want to make a great game, so much cool stuff would be labeled silly or just plain offensive.
If it was set in a fantasy world noone would bat an eyelid to have small devils or golems working the field for you.

There's two bad things about slavery:
- the fact that it existed

I think you just answered your own question of why it shouldn't be in the game. That would be it existing and by definition that would be a bad thing.

I see no reason why Paradox would not allow this in a game, this would put them in the camp of denial. Nothing wrong with being historically correct.

Slaves were not shackled and the other things you mentioned. You want to be historically correct, then do research.

I am totally against this idea. I think it's inappropriate. I don't think it is necessary. It has no real value worth the feelings it may bring about in people.

BEST IDEA EVAR!!!

Then we can make great new things! Whips, chains, and make enough cotton to export!

Slavery has existed for thousands of years, and still exists today. Chances are, some article of clothing you are wearing, or a great deal of your wardrobe has been touched by a child slave in a developing country. The slave trade was a MASSIVE industry, and made the colonization of the Americas much easier, swifter and more profitable. It wasn't just a White thing.. Spanish had the biggest and best slave ships money could buy. Sure.. you cram 600+ on a boat, let them writhe in their own filth and **** for a few months, and hope 400+ survive the trip, but if more survive, YAY more money. You might think it's disgusting now, but the majority of great empires were built on slave labor. Just look at China.. as of yesterday...

Slaves would make a good gold-sink too.

It's still there, even if you close your eye and say it's not.

Just because bad people are doing bad things in the world does not make it okay to do bad things. Isn't there enough of this horrid crap in the world?

You already have Murder, Larseny and Extortion. Where exactly are you drawing the line? I understand that Seatribe fully intends to introduce witchcraft, hexes and black magic. Are we going to see a discussion about Satanic worship then? Salem is not a warm, fuzzy place where only good things happen. I'm not sure I see where this line of "bad things" that are ok to represent and those that are not is drawn.

And again, do your research... witchcraft is not satanic. Wiccans don't even believe in Satan. Geeze, everyone talks of things they don't even know about. It's insane. Ignorance is bliss it seems. Okay now I'm cranky. I think slavery is a line crosser, so do others. Most are not even posting because they don't want to give this idea any attention. I should have done the same and I shall do so now.

This has nothing to do with morality; it is an objectively offensive act. Due to the long, embittered history of the slave trade in the Americas you are more or less alienating a huge number of people. Yes, witchcraft has a nasty history too and no one will argue that murder or theft is okay but you are ignoring scope and context in order to prove a non-existent point.

Also there is a lot of evidence indicating that the slave trade and colonialism in general barely broke even for most countries that practiced it. There was such a huge cost when it came to maintaining the trade and exerting control that it almost entirely negated profits. It turns out most slaves and slave nations don't wish to remain that way. Then there's Japan who skews things extremely negatively when you look at their colonial period during World War 2. That did not end profitably for them at all.
