For some reason my black bile seems to drop significantly every time i'm around my ore smelter. Something like 7-8 points can anyone explain this to me? Is it a bug?

Yes you lose black bile every time you start a construction. Black bile also drains while you are studying.
As for being around your ore smelter that seems very random, sure it's nothing else you are doing?

must be when i'm building i thought you only lost phlem! this game has a high learning curve.
