applying lock to door

trying to put a lock on my farmers house, not working?
I already made the key to fit it.
also how do you put keys on a keyring?

Doors cannot be locked yet. Only chests and gates.

Right click keyring to open it. Put keys into the new inventory box.

The devs have said they are not going to add this until they have some kind of "lock picking"

They can hold 8 keys but you can use the keys on more then one lock.
