It's really hard to pass this up, is it a good idea to go to the opposite side of this forest/water/trail/quarry and claim some land to start out? After 6 hours of travelling it's starting to get a bit stale, and this is the best area I have found. At this point every spot I have found has been taken by some random player and it's starting to get old.

Go for it.

Alright is there someway I can figure out the player that owns that and communicate with them? If push came to shove maybe I could talk to them :P.

You can build a sign and leave it for them. Or check by now and then.

Thanks, I went AFK a few seconds to post that last post and a snake attacked me. I ran for a bit and logged out. Now when I try to log back in it says "The position you last logged out is not available, because that location has become occupied. Would you like to restart at your homestead(not losing your inventory)?" What does that mean, I just spent 6 hours looking for this spot am I screwed or should I wait till tomorrow or something(I chose no)?

If you were in combat still that snake KO you and you are already at your claim more then likely. Try again later maybe

You can't logout while in combat. You can press X or logout but your char stays ingame. Its easy to check. If you have enemy portrait in top right corner then it means you are in combat.
So what happened here:
Snake attacked you,
you logged out while you were in combat,
snake came and KOed you(or you got KOed from poison),
after 1-2mins you got teleported back to your homestead and your char logged out.
Your char is standing in leanto so you can see that 'position is not avaible' msg.
Your char is already back at your old place so nothing can be done about this. :(
You should try saving your progress while traveling with making leantos now and then.

Wow that sucks I thought you could log out while under attack(I read something like this on another guide from Haven and Hearth to just log out). So glad I just wasted 6 hours, damnit.

You should log out BEFORE combat but you can't during on this game or hnh.

This, while exploring or traveling great distances I always build a leanto every now and again as a checkpoint.

If your homestead was far away from the spot you wanted to settle you could always download the salem map tool, found here, combine your map and you will most likely find a shorter route to where you want to be.

Thanks for the information, guess I learned something just wish I didn't have to wait 6 hours to do so. I suppose it wasn't a complete waste of time considering my raises to everything. I will head south this time though knowing it would take 6 hours or so again North to find anything :P.

Hrm, I will check that out as well first thanks(and remember to build lean-to's on the way)!
