Super Crickets

Get rid of them. Plain and simple.

I just started a few days ago, and I accept that the game is unusually difficult. However, whoever was the <INSERT INSULTING EXPLETIVE> who decided to make 1 out of every ~10 crickets do 8x-10x normal damage? Screw you, whoever had that idea.

Crickets don't need to be doing over 4 points of blood damage. Period.

Heh, well, it did. So I turn to run, but nowhere to run to. I turn back around to try and hit him again (both he and I were at 1 hit), Guard, and he still hits me for 2.5 or something. I fall over, lose my inventory.

Damn you, Alpha Cricket!

EDIT: High reel or balance? Would that cause the cricket to hit me for ridiculous amounts?

Loftar mentioned their special attack deals more damage with ... reel? And they're also programmed to use the special attack more often when you're reeling (or imbalanced, I forget which it is).

Either way, to help with this post!
It's been neat to see the evolution of a game. Salem has come so far, and still has far to go. Although frustrating, I think it's been an experience worth the effort.

After having this discussion and knowing to look out for it, I do believe it is Reel (and not Imbalance) that causes more damage from that cricket attack. Chalk up another one (or rather, several...) to learning things the hard way. Heh.

And Sevenless, as an aside, thank you very much for the Beginner's Guide. It is absolutely invaluable.

Also, since when are crickets versed in hit and run tactics? And how could a cricket comprehend the concept of cooldowns, let alone be able to time their attacks between the cooldowns of a player?

I feel like I'm fighting Mohammad Ali sometimes (partially due to the bug of turning 180 degrees if you're too close to the target you're attacking (I think that's the cause)). It's a little ridiculous.

Had this happen to me in the beginning as well, till I realized that if you have your attacks on the hotbar it will use it in the direction of your mouse pointer, so aim the mouse at what you are fighting and you shouldn't have any problems with random turn arounds.

You're welcome :)

As for cricket hunting: If you walk away from the crickets eventually you'll see them make a beeline towards you. At this point, wait until they're ~2-3 tiles away and line up a punch. Yes, they hit you, but you hit them and have more health (at least you should).

Their attacks are mostly random. Some animals (like deer) will wait for you to do something specific before engaging. Deer charge you if you turn your back to them and are too far away.

Also, if you're having trouble with the idea of fighting a cricket, remember, these are Warbite Crickets and are about the same size as a bunny. (they're friggin monsters!) If the Pilgrims hadn't eradicated them to make inspirationals for cash, we'd all be serving cricket overlords today. ;)
