Can't craft "Captivating Flame"

I want to craft Captivating Flame, but I get every time a message that "you need to be using a fire".

Can somebeody help?

You need to right click the fire to use it. You have built one, right?

Nope. I got the craftable items for it, but I can't craft it because of the error message "you need to be using a fire".

No, I mean did you build a fire? You need to build a pile of wood, and then right click it with a tinder drill to light it.

A bunch of us were caught by this early on. This is the same error you get if you try to create roasted meat or other things that need to be cooked over an open fire (none of those in-game recipes show the need for a fire or other heat source).

Once you make a pile of wood or a fireplace loaded with branches, you need to light it using the tinder drill (which has a reasonable chance of failing, so you may need more than one drill). Now that the fire is burning, you need to right click on it before trying to "cook" things over it.

I didn't know that if you wanted to cook things. It required a heat source.
