Building in the cliff

Postby Belcanzor » Tue Dec 18, 2012 4:02 am

Build in a cliff is considered abuse? I mean, if there is now way they can break the walls because the wall is just in the border.
I find a very high ones today surrounded by deep water.
This is in a theoretical situation because build in the top can be a real pain, not to mention enter every day in the house :p

If you plan on having a gate, you'd have to leave space for you to stand in front of it, which would mean there was a space to stand for smashing it. Not to mention if it's surrounded by deep water it would be a huge pain for the person who lives there because you'd need a boat or be able to swim across every time you went to leave. I had considered building in some of the holes with really tall sides or on top of an area with tall sides, but in the end decided it was more trouble than it was worth unless I was just using it as a back up and not my primary residence.

Actually, you could make a clifftop base with the gate on the edge, you'd just have to have friendlies or alts in the base to open the gate for you when you came back. However, you'd need to find a cliff area that was big enough to support your whole base, so the effort would probably not be worth it.

Might need to be addressed by the devs at some point. (Maybe by making it impossible to make a gate next to a cliff?)

Legit mechanic, players have already attempted big cliff top bases which were wiped out by the chief.

As its a mud cliff, remember a raiding party cannot climb the cliff to smash the wall due to walls location @ the top of the cliff, but they can spend hours / days, stacking up tons of mud @ the bottom to eventually make 1 tile @ the wall were they can effectively start to smash inside.

Unless it's an island, in which case there's no room to build up a dirt ramp.

True, I hadn't thought of that. The fact that keys actually work well in this game makes me forget about the days of having an alt to open doors for me. However I don't think it would really be considered legit if it was an island with no way for anyone to actually attack the walls/gate.

Yeah, but the only spots I've seen that fit that extremely specific description have been like 10 squares wide or less, so I don't know if it's an issue. (then again I haven't really been hunting for that sort of location, so maybe there's a utopia out there just waiting to be discovered)

Yes, the cliff are small islands surrounded by deep water. Not for a farmer or miner. Thanks for the answers.
