Vista should work, shouldn't it? (Vista is like WinME to me: something to be forgotten about quickly and never touched.)

Yeah it should work fine...Intel quit supporting drivers on XP in like 2008, hence the problems with the 900 series chipsets.

ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9700: crashes on enabling shadows.
(latest graphic driver from laptop brand (Acer). Although I doubt this is driver related.)

Several people are crashing on enabled shadows, but so far you're only the second person to list a card. I'll add it to the list on the OP.

Only thing I could guess on these is the API that's being used isn't fully supported or it's a memory overflow. Pretty sure the Radeon 9xxx cards could do OGL 2.0, though I'd have to double check.

It looks like the 945GM is no longer supported in Windows Vista either, with the latest driver update from 7/3/2008. You could try your computer manufacturer website to find newer drivers, or you could try do install the Windows 7 drivers since they are the 'latest'. nfc if that will work though, but if it were me I would try it.

I used to have problem with enabling shadows = crash. I updated to the most recent CCC+drivers and now I can toggle them on and off, but I leave them off anyways cuz they look like **** on my computer.

CCC+drivers: ?

"OpenGL Extensions Viewer" is giving some messages about newer versions that have some additional OGL function support in relation to my video card. I looked around a bit, but so far I have not found anything useful yet.
