its actually not all that uncommon from the games i have played, most any game that allow players to freely trade assets without the use of some game mechanic, market or such. i knew guys in eve that made a living (in game) doing only that. some of the best stories were where they would spend years joining a group, gaining their trust and then steal everything they were ever given access to. some to the tune of several thousand dollars worth of assets.
