Beaming sunflower bug

On Roanoke when you harvest a Beaming Sunflower (for the first time) you only get one flower. I replanted it, but is this intentional?

Yes that's intentional. When you replant it you get a "Sunny Sunflower" which will give you 2 (or 3 w/ horticulture). Beaming Sunflower is a rare event.
