Bulk storage

Postby Procne » Sun Dec 02, 2012 5:47 pm

It would be nice to have some structures for storing mass amounts of particular items. Only for some basic, low value items, which often come in large quantities. Those structures would be 1 or 2 tiles big. They would work similar to a construction sign - you right click them and window with quantity opens from/to which you can mouse-scroll items. Some examples:

- Wood shed - stores 100 wood blocks
- Log shed - stores 10 wood logs
- Plank stack - stores 50 boards of any kind
- Wood choppings bin - stores 200 wood choppings
- Hay stack - stores 50 hay
- Mushroom drying rack - stores 50 mushrooms of any kind
- Vegetable bin - stores 50 pumpkins of any kind or any other vegetable we would get in the future
- Stone / coal / ore heap - stores 100 lime / granite / stone / coal / ore

1+
We really need something like this, Just something like wood piles or Coal heaps would make me happy. I hate having to store everything like sign posts / mass chests.

Yeah, this is awesome. Although for the wood choppings i'd rather they were a "fluid" like seeds/flour/water etc :)

Meat as well please. The only place I store meat is in chests and boxes which take so much space.

Some of those values are a little low even. But yes, storage options would be neat.
It's been neat to see the evolution of a game. Salem has come so far, and still has far to go. Although frustrating, I think it's been an experience worth the effort.

I think it'd be neat if some of these storage structures were extension of houses, to make them more useful (now that we have sheds all you really need a house for is a stove). Preferably attachments on the outside, to provide for some visual variety and so we don't have to go indoors to access the storage.

That would be really neat. I'm a big fan of upgrading in games, and upgradable houses would be great. Although I guess that might be difficult

Agreed, it would be neat, and perhaps not all that difficult. They could add "slots" to the outside of houses, similar to the indoor hearth for stoves, where X storage bin can attach to X slot.

Expanding on that, certain houses could have limits on which storage bins could be attached, like the Pilgrim's Hovel having two slots restricted to the wood bin and mushroom bin, Farmer's House having perhaps 4 slots, and so on, giving players more of a reason to build the larger, more expensive options.

Oh man, imagine if these storage extensions were accessible both from outside and inside of the house. Then again, that might be too nice a thing for Jorb to let us have it ;)

Anyway, I think that the number of slots should always be lower than the number of different extensions that can be put in them, so we don't wind up with all the houses looking the same again.
