Your mines and mountains proficiency needs to be higher to get them more often.

This is an easier option than trying to dig them up. Check badlands, watch out for snakes.

~80 Mines & Mountains i got usualy 1 granite boulder per 8 boulders ...

at 500 MnM it's like 3:1 iirc, having 200-300 is a good number to not get mad while trying to get granite ^^
