there are lots of things that could be put in, but then that unfairly ***** on the zerg groups which is also bad.
the problem is people in general have a defeatist outlook toward anything that is not currently going their way, i am one guy. i am competent but not some kind of electronic computer god, doubt i play more than the average daily player does and indeed go for months without playing at all when i get busy like everyone else. yet i am able to remain competitive because my focus is different.
look at the lasso thread on christmas as an example, you have a new weapon that has been in game for over a year and virtually nobody knows how it works. why? it takes ten minutes to test.
again, mortars have been in for a year as well, yet very few know how to use them properly or can state the effects of the ammo. why? it takes ten minutes to test.
TBC has been in for 2+ years, yet how many people have actually built one to test summon times, how fast it can be destroyed etc? last month "veteran" heffernan thought the kzerg was hacking because he could not accuse kuku since he had no space behind the TBC to do it. he has been playing for like three ***** years.
the wall soaks were changed over a year ago, and again there is almost nobody that knows how long it takes to get through a wall because they can not be bothered to build a one tile section off claim and hit on it
there have been dozens of ways to kill other players with witchcraft, disease, madness and so on yet nobody bothers to learn them and as such can not defend against them.
how many people have any combat experience at all beyond hunting animals? id wager 75% do not.
last year i had a self proclaimed pvp god of haven throw a ragefit for two weeks in every thread i posted in because he came out to fight my 80 stat scout alt with his main and dirtnapped in one minute to a poison dart because he did not bring any antivenom, he had many vials of antivenom he just couldnt be bothered to bring one.
people are just dumb and lazy, until that changes things will stay the same with any new endeavor being a big rush for the first month and slowly going downhill from there until only a handful of people are left and one side eventually eliminates the other while in the meantime everyone else just pisses and moans from the sideline.
in the case of popham and another popular complaint, the ark. ignoring that it was put in as a favor for the underachievers in the first place, if everyone had been given their own personal ark to complete like many have said would have magically fixed everything the exact same result would have played out as everyone went back to providence after completing their ark.
the salem playerbase is weak, game needs to be plugged heavy for a few months with banner ads and so on in various online communities that have large numbers of pvp oriented players.
