Announcements of major changes to Salem.

As a little side note to TbF, something that I have seen in other places and that actually works, and that encourages both parties, the raiding and the defending, to actually meet:

1.) Allow any town major to simply set a time at which his peoples prime time is, and at which time they are willing to defend.
(1.a) accessable only through the bell, or over the town menu, or both, whatever is easiest to implement)
(1.b) note: time is always in server time, current server time should be displayed where this option can be set, so it is always clear which time is meant)
(1.c) default time set is time of bell completion, if that is not possible to determine for existing bells, chose a random number, and leave it to the vigilant townspeople to correct at their earliest convenience^^)

2.) Instead of plain 24h, a TbF becomes active at the next time where a.) the attacked towns time is set, and b.) at least 24h have passed, maybe 20h, maybe 18h, I leave that to field tests and the devs liking^^

3.) Put a big fat timer above both the town bell and the TbF, ticking down, so everyone can see it from a distance. Such a display of incoming danger, of fear and anticipation, is surely something that is missing here.

4.) The town that "matters" is always the oldest town inside the TbFs field of effect, if there is more than one town, the oldest towns set time counts for all of them.
("Being inside the field of the TbF" means being inside with any part of the towns claim, no matter how small or large.)

5.) The TbF becomes invulnerable 1h after creation.

6.) Everything inside the TbFs field of effect and the TbF itself become vulnerable only at the moment the timer (see 1. and 2. and 3.) runs out, not earlier.

and after several years judaism finally admits that he thinks only massive groups of ****** players should be able to compete in salem thus removing any need to ever entertain one of his idiotic suggestions ever again.

oddly enough when he himself was a solo player on roanoke he had the opposite view, i guess repeatedly being unable to cut it there alone and joining a giant conglomerate of low talent assclowns to pick on newbs means he completely flip flopped his view, which also means his opinion is entirely centered around whatever benefits himself at the time which is yet further reason to disregard anything he has to say.

i however, have pushed for many things over the years that are NOT in my interest but ARE in the interest of balanced playstyles for all, be it carebears, hermits, small raider groups and yes even giant ***** like he plays in.

Okay, time to get back on topic. If you want to suggest new or changed game mechanics, go to Ideas. If you want to talk politics, go to HoB. Any more posts not on the subject of the questions at the beginning will be hinnomed.

If we are sticking with a theme of colonies, then might I suggest "Virginia?" I went in search of "early american alcohol production" and one article I found turned up this:

The early setters brought quite a supply of ale and spirits with them from England, but when their supplies dwindled, they had no choice but to brew their own beer, using whatever ingredients were close at hand. By the early 1620s, colonists in Virginia were brewing beer that they claimed would “tide them over” until they got used to the water. Captain James Thorpe, a missionary in Virginia at that time, wrote to friends in London that he had learned to make a drink from Indian corn that was so good, he sometimes chose it over English beer. Was Thorpe actually distilling corn whiskey at the time? Though that possibility is not unthinkable, it’s more probable that he was making corn beer. Whatever his product actually was, however, was strong enough to get a whole bunch of native Americans so drunk that they scalped and killed him in 1622.

I found that here, under the section called "the settlers search for a decent drink," first paragraph.

You can't do the same thing again and expect a different result.

It would take a lot more than the minor tweaking being discussed in this thread to avoid another popham expedition where almost nobody gave a ***** about it after the first few weeks.

Duration : 6ish months till the goal is presented, and a year cap till the statues march on town like you said. And as far as I care if people slack, let the benefits all go to waste. There has to be some motivator for each individual person to work for it if they want it.

Name of the expedition : Whine and Dine, for cravings, booze and tears.

Name of the server : No idea, New Amsterdam seems to have been an early booze-producer

Win condition can be up to devs, also up to you if you wanna time gate it, effort gate it, cleverness gate it or all of the above. Gotta figure out how the difficulty scales with groups and solo players as well as if it's manageable while also trying to defend Provi, since that's also gonna be less than entirely safe.

Difficulty of winning is nothing I could comment on. Finding the statues wasn't necessarily hard, tho I'm more of a mapper / hunter type. Actually getting through depended on how active people were, but all in all not my pot of tea to comment on.

If raiding is easier it should be easier to build as well. Can't have provi building rules mixed with expedition wrecking rules, i guess. Might get boring to rebuild all the time, or might be interesting to have a fast paced gameplay.

If witchcraft will play into the win condition then you just need to make sure that the goals for winning won't just inadvertently be reached early on.

Tracking has always been fun, perhaps figure out a way to tweak the rules of raiding so it matches the difficulty you want. But people need to be able to track whoever damaged their stuff, i think.

Same-ish size as Popham, it was a tiny map.

Less dev vanishing, less gating of the content. I'd rather you delay the expedition and launch it when you're back to release bits of content to keep the player's drive going. Popham had animals introduced with mediocre foods, with annoying mechanics to keep them alive, with an unknown condition for keeping them and no exact time till the end. I think people just couldn't see exactly when they'd reap the benefits to care enough about keeping it all going till the end of it to get it all on providence. Perhaps an account based ark type thing where anyone that worked towards it gets a buff to tending to their booze, while anyone else does it all slower if we do bring booze back to providence.

Removed another large derail. Guys, try to remember you're in Announcements where we try to keep things a little more on topic. This is your chance to let us know how you feel about the course of the next expedition and you're wasting it on politics and ***** about the previous expedition. If you want to do that, go make a topic in HoB and ***** to your heart's content, but if I see this thread derail again, I'm handing out bans.

It was an unfortunate coincidence that John suddenly had to devote most of his time to other things and we really couldn't have predicted it. This time, he's more sure of his schedule and how much time he can spend devving.

I must confess, Meow is right. The name of the server is much more important then discussion about TBF or Cannons to the playerbase.

They will both be present on the next expedition. So, discussing them here has nothing to do with the topic. Go make a topic on HoB if you want to talk about them.
