- for movies, the DVD wasn't that much of a good thing when they came out, it later was though
- for Data storage, if you ever used DVDs as storage (read: storage, not "copying some data for someone else or mobile use"), like you said you did, you did something wrong

Movies weren't stored on cds because cds were too small to hold them. That's why dvds were invented in the first place, a concentrated effort to make something capable of holding enough information to put a movie on it. You had enough other historical inaccuracies in there to make me wonder if you lived then or just heard about it from parents or something.

Sure, because when DVDs came out you had a TV that could make use of the resolution it offered above tapes? And you ofc bought a DVD recorder right when they were new so you have (almost) the same utility as with tapes? ...right... sorry I said a thing about it...

That's only partly true, you could get a movie on a CD before the DVD came out (easy today with current compression tech) ... then in the quality of about ...well ... tape, yea DVD was developed mainly because of putting movies on it, in good quality, this does not invalidate anthing I said though.

Actually they were, but they typically needed two disks per movie and were in general **** compared to DVDs and so VCDs where dropped basically as soon as DVD came out. But yeah Taipion clearly is speaking about a thing they heard about and has no real knowledge of.
