Frakked. *sigh*

Stone is a perfectly viable wall type. You can defend your claim with ONLY stone walls and braziers and 99% of the people will leave you alone.

Torch posts are not affected by purity.

I honestly suggest not putting a brick around your whole claim at all unless you're a big player who's pissed someone off. You might put a little one around your mine or other most valuable things. Or your whole claim, if that's what you want, but you don't Need to.

A bell cannot be eminent domained.

Staggering your gates and making an 'ugly', difficult to navigate base is of little usefulness and will give you a horrible headache living in your base. Remember defense, yes, but also remember you have to live there. Most of what Frakked is talking about with his 'design it ugly' speal is for raider bases. People who have enemies.

Keep your more valuable things in a cupboard in a locked house, perhaps with a dedicated wall around it, for best effect. Mines are convenient for mass storage, but they can't be claimed inside so no crimes are committed when people manage to get inside to rifle through your stuff.

If you want to use your gates frequently, especially with carts n stuff, don't stagger them, but remember gates are vulnerable as its easy for 2 player to beat at them at once.
A good thing for a new player to beef up their gates is the use of baby braziers, you can place them in between normal braziers/TPs to make one consider it twice to get through your gate when trying to break in.

Gates are also stronger than walls, so it evens out.

Edit: Forgot, we made them easier to repair. So, if you're actively defending, the raiders will be forced to go through a wall instead.

Also, gates don't splash onto wall segments, so you could also build wall tiles behind them. :D
[edit:] In case you are actively defending...

ROFL

I do have enemies and while I might have earned mine it's not hard to get slotted with that title by anyone for doing nothing at all. Just existing will be a threat if someone more powerful decides to take up residence nearby.

Best to plan ahead; else you'll have little choice but to relocate when you are facing extinction! Consider how many hours you've spent already vs doing it all again somewhere else. Whatever headache you achieve on your own will be that much worse for anyone coming in that doesn't belong there.

If you can plan for improvements- leave some space here/there as you can. Imagine your base before there were Barns? How would you incorporate this monstrosity if you didn't know if was coming?

Plan ahead as you can. Little more effort now; could be the difference between starting over or rolling along with a fat grin!

I planned in space for 3 barns before I took Heff's stone wall on his failed Raid attempt... now I have room for many!... Can't wait to see what JC comes out with next. I have space for Barn 1.5 inside my outer-most brick wall!

How are you situated?!

There was a diagram of his base at the beginning.

I don't know who/what you think is mine... but I haven't seen it yet in this thread. Wait a few... I'll upload something

Updated: Image

Stone wall (legacy of failed raid attempt to contain me) can't be seen it's further out. I'm on the fence on whether it's worth defending, but my heart..., but you can see Brick, plank (which was first wall made), and then more brick inside. Other 70% follows similar situation around pclaim. The two are NOT in the same brick enclosure. Planning on another brick wall in the 'breach' as I call it between outermost brick and Stone wall; and I'll segment up open areas as much as I can and keep adding braziers and torch-posts. Barn is right next too the town-house I made for Town members. Lots more space elsewhere :)!

As I suggested in another thread- base layout- plan ahead or get left crying!

Making 8 blister coffins now :)... gate in brick wall filled very soon! Ofc that's another area... you can't see.

Alt R to toggle defenses

Image

Red circle is the smaller, movable Brazier

Other noticeable circle is the glass scarecrow

Pavement to the South - Church (for all you Witches) is located.

Darker area is my plcaim; lighter area is my town... unadulterated is free for grabs area for which there is nothing in this picture as it should be!

You made a post full of wrong information a little bit back. I made a post correcting it so they guy who made this thread, the one who posted the diagram, would have a chance of making himself a nice base. I'm not really sure what you're talking about now.

ROFL- perfect example of the Dev who's never had to defend herself or her town in this game ever!

Thanks for playing!

I offered up more than you have ever done on my base defenses that could be used against me.

All you did was whine that my expectations of Raiders was far short of reality.

Please put forth some real examples or remove yourself from this conversation.

You seemingly lack the prerequisite experience. (I have yet to hear about your death...x3) So until you can prove base improvements that helped you avoid it; minus your current DEV status I don't think you have any standing at all. Ever.

Not your fault, but until you do or can~ you are not helping here.

Thanks!
