Maybe with a good chance that it will become a 'questionably effective walking pole' ... go hit a bear with a stick and see what happens to the stick :P

And in the questionably effective state, it would cause you to trip while walking normally.

It will do no more damage to a sturdy walking stick than it would to the the shaft of a halberd.

debatable ... a hiking pole would be what? ~15mm in diameter, lightweight so as to aid in travel rather than fatigue the bearer ... a halberd shaft would be somewhat sturdier, thicker, heavier etc designed to support the weight of and impact of a steel axehead, and would also be used (hopefully) by a trained user in such a way as to preserve it's usefulness as a weapon ... so unless a character is a mystical Eastern martial arts master that can use any object as a deadly weapon, imo a hiking pole should really just be a hiking pole. Sure you could use it as a weapon, but it'd be pretty silly to and you'd probably break it.

If you want the basic walking stick to be very light and cheap to make they could just also have a higher tier version, something like a shillelagh.

Like to visit the notion of using the terrain ~ specifically simple mechanics much like Windmill but Water wheels too.

Could create 'Saw Mills' to increase production of boards, etc?

Maybe any existing mechanical placed in proximity to a Waterwheel could be given a X% boost in productivity.

Wind is fickle, but the water flows no matter what.

Certain "good" mine tiles that take literally 5 hours to mine draining massive amounts of phlegm. Progress on mining is not reset, so it gets saved like on trees. Which other benefits, I don't know.

Black Ore Nodes? Could contain buffed up ore like the buffed "little limestone" lime version.
