It was my knife or my foot soooo....

That sounds like a story.
not a good one tbh :( I dropped it and made the conscious decision not to try and catch it with my foot. It hit the floor and literally an inch of it snapped off the top
was literally one of the hardest decisions I have made

That sucks. Was it a kitchen knife or one made for another purpose? I've lost three good kitchen knives when somebody decided to use them to attempt to pry parts off a bike with them. Two broken tips, and a notched up edge. Was furious about that for months, especially since whoever did it just slid them back into the block as if nothing was wrong after they did it.

what the hell
That goes way past ignorance to complete incompetence. I hope you caught who did it
I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.

Oh, I'm sure I know who it was. Proving it and getting him to pay for it though would be like trying to use a sausage to squeeze orange juice from a rock.

It was a kitchen knife. Made by a friend :( I had it "repaired" but it just isn't the same

Finally cooked a rabbit last night and got to give the new knife a serious tryout. I can say it does an awesome job with cartilage, no problems removing the legs at all. It could maybe stand to be a bit sharper than it is, but it certainly is better than any of my other knives for that sort of thing. And I did have to grip the blade to get through the spine, so grip notches not such a bad idea after all.

get a set of the naniwa chosera series of "water stones" to cure that, they are a lot better than any of our ****** american oil based sharpening stones but do wear out faster.

I got to handle a knife made from this stuff recently. Opal. Surprisingly sturdy material for a blade. I wouldn't use it for cooking or general use though.

Ooooo, I love opal. I didn't know it made a usable blade though. Kinda like obsidian, I suppose?

Obsidian cuts like crazy. I use to mine it out of the field behind my house.

Exactly. Jade can be used the same way too.

That's pretty cool. I love obsidian. I used to find it on the beach of the lake where the summer camp I used to go to was located. I remember a camp counselor who was thrown out on his ass after it was discovered that he was getting kids to dig up obsidian for him or confiscating it from kids who had any so he could sell it in town.
