lmfao! They really do need to fix how taking over a gym works so you can't ninja it.

They need to fix taking over gyms period. Unless it's just the connection with our local provider... We try to take over gyms and it is a 50/50 chance of whether or not it will even let us or if it will freeze on the last battle.

The trick of gyms...you cannot train at a gym if it's being attacked, it'll time out.

If you are attacking, take turns. If two attack at once, it often messes up.

That's my observations. We are pretty consistent at taking gyms, when we take turns.

I just wonder how I can make my pokemon much stronger. Mine are all in the upper 100s at best and I got to a gym and can't even practice with a teammate's pokemon because it's over 700 for the weakest. Are all these people just playing and getting a hell of a log more stardust than I am or what?

They get bigger as you level.

Just save your dust for later, get candy to evolve a good one that's higher end cp.

Egg hatching will give you the best from what I've seen.

The higher your level the better pokemon you will find. People that a really high level have been using lucky eggs and evolution spam. Right now I have 15 pidgey candy worth of evolutions. When you evolve a pokemon you get 500exp. If you use a lucky egg you will get 1000 exp. There are quite a few strats to use to get levels fast but that one is the best if you save up all the evolutions and pop a lucky egg.

Once you get higher level you can use the stardust to level the pokemon.

I see. I haven't bought anything yet, though I'm sure I will later when I figure out what will help the most. Lucky eggs, maybe? It's been too hellishly hot out to walk around out there and hatch my eggs and when I tried on Saturday to grab a few pokestops when we went out to dinner, the servers were so slammed by everyone else doing the same thing, the game wouldn't even load properly.

So, I guess I'm just behind the curve. It makes me wonder what happens to people like me and others who might join later when all the training grounds are taken up by the veterans and faster players? Is it just a case of you can't play in the training grounds until you're up near max level? Or you have to spam all your pokemon and empty your inventory of potions? Ingress is kinda like that in that a level 1 person CAN take a portal of level 8 resonators if they're willing to spend a silly number of EMPs, but this gap seems wider. Or is there some strategy for fighting or healing pokemon that I'm missing? I haven't noticed them healing when I walk or over time.

You can only heal them from items you get via leveling or pokestops.

One top is when you start getting to higher levels and higher CP Pokemon appear is to go for the better evolutions like Eevee. They gain a decent CP when evolved. One I caught at 402 evolved into an 832 Flareon.

Yea it's hot as balls atm. It's really hard to get out in certain areas unless you do it in the mornings or evenings. You might be behind the curve but you can still train your pokemon at gyms and park them there. There is also strategy in the fights. If you are able to git gud at dodging then your pokemon will never get hit.
