How do you deal with the fear of dying?

Postby Crithammer » Sat Jun 25, 2016 6:04 am

I woke up this morning and got on, and heard someone fighting the wildlife outside of my camp, I took all the **** from my baskets and went back to bed, I didn't log on for 2 hours because I didn't know if they were still there. How do you deal with interaction in this game?

Mostly with a wall between you, though most newbies won't just up and get murdered. KO, maybe. It really depends who you meet. Half of them will be terrified to see you and run off. Some will take a chance to talk. Some will mug you. A few might actually murder you if you are near their claim.

You just need to do it. Die, a few times, realize it's not that big of a deal and learn in the process how to stop doing it lol. Differentiate between disposable chars and mains and protect each accordingly. As for who you might meet, there's always the possibility the person was nice, I myself have gifted my hunting spoils to newbies i've passed on account of limited carry weight and prioritizing more valuable stuff.

You can't really play this game well until you've lost a Main or two to perma-death. Not saying you have too; but the mechanic doesn't really sink in until you experience it first hand.

Most quit and never return; having never realized Salem for what it is.

Oh- and you can do 'everything' right: walls, defenses, town Bell, etc... and still die like bat on your neck during bloodmoon, etc..

If you aren't prepared to start over from scratch tomorrow with nothing but your bank account (in town) then your skin might not be tough enough.

Indeed! also was the bat on the neck jab aimed at me? :( Admittedly that particular death on Popham wasn't taken too harshly, so the practice of dying a few times does help soften the blow :D I think it hurt more that i forgot to update my inheritance than actually the dying itself. But that's a good point to remind people of, bank your money when you've got excess, and for god's sake plan estate, keep it updated :D

Big talk criticizing someone elses text mannerisms. Especially coming from someone who can't keep his fingers off the period key. Come back when you've figured out what ellipsis are actually for. Queens choice in text may be the most minor of nuisances, but at least she isn't overusing ellipsis and making herself look like a ****.

To stay on topic though. You don't. What you have to deal with is losing your stuff. Especially store items if you have any. Get a stone hedge to start off, then work your way towards a brick wall or plank fence.
