I thought you were an all around contractor. Ever guy I've worked with knows how to the the easiest one of them. Here, let me show you.

Tools & items you'll need:
No 1 - Basic drill with 1/16" drill bit suitable for metal.
No 2 - Cement pipe glue.
No 3 - 1' lead pipe, 1/2"
No 4 - 2 galvanized pipe caps, 1/2".
No 5 - Black powder of any kind.
No - 6 Magnesium strip, 2" long.

Drill a single hole in the center of pipe. Cap one side of pipe with glue and full 2/3rds of the way full, and cap final side. Place magnesium strip, the fuse, in hole. Light and run. That easy. And there is easier. Children learning basic chemistry in 3rd grade know this for heaven's sake. Its a simple exothermic reaction.

Luckily the guy didn't have a couple of guns otherwise it could have been much worse.
