Has anyone ever considered the simple beauty of a likewise simple sandwich?

Speaking of which, I was sitting at work a few years ago and talking to a friend of mine. We were discussing food and the art of it's preparation. I mentioned (as I had rehearsed in my head for such a time) the artistry of the sandwich. My intention was to make a reference to the last book in the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy series, (the sixth book doesn't count, only the first five) to try and illustrate how even the simplest of foods can have a measure of effort and pride put into them, and of course to try and look very clever. The trouble with this whole thing was that we were sitting in a walmart break room, and after my first sentence: "Now take the sandwich for example, truly a work of art" I was cut off at that moment by this ***** crone at the other end of the line of tables who breaks the calm of the break room by screaming "SANDWICHES AREN'T ART! ART IS EXPENSIVE!!" Ignoring that hags irresistible urge to break into a conversation she is not involved in, like a goose through a stained glass window, lets look at that statement. specifically, the "art is expensive" part. Is it really? Does art have to be expensive? I would think not. Setting aside the fact that you can see any piece of art for free by using a google image search, there is a plethora of art that ranges from "expensive indeed" to "dirt cheap." On the dirt cheap end of things, viewing art can be as simple as taking a walk. If you have an appreciation for natural beauty and live in a swamp (like I do) then going out under that canopy of trees can be like walking through a cathedral and listening to the natural choir. Natures cathedral. It's better than a normal cathedral in that it isn't filled with annoying people. I own some clay mugs which I drink copious quantities of coffee out of. They are wonderful hand made/glazed pieces of pottery, and they cost me no more than 5 to 8 bucks. That isn't expensive. I can see people disagreeing about it, but I guess it's a matter of opinion. So is art expensive? Clearly, it doesn't have to be.

A well made sandwich or almost any food for that reason is most certainly art. You admire its aesthetics, you anticipate the taste, enjoy the aroma before finally giving in and devouring it to the last bit :>
Actually I think pretty much anything we create could be art in a certain way.
Like the clean and polished, bug-free code, commented and referenced neatly? Hot damn!
... well I guess fantasies don't count.
