Berenstein makes me feel like these were German bears that just got hammered all the time. But hey, that's alright too ;)

As someone with a long last name I can understand. The majority of the population reads the first 5 letters of a last name an draws a conclusion. I cant tell you how many times I get called up at a location by the name Hollingsworth. There is no "w" in my last name.... This happens frequently at busy restaurants where the hostess does not pay full attention to the name I gave them. I can see everyone trying to correct children just because that is how they heard it and they refuse to pay attention to the name and just go brain dead 4 letters into a last name. I also know a guy who's name is Promise some how everyone hears Brian when he introduces himself. To be perfectly honest I am sure there is an inescapable mental process that draws conclusions based on all prior information learned leading to people reacting improperly to something they have never heard before. I can sympathize with anyone that comes from the Jackston families  .

They changed their name when they fled to Argentina in the final days of WWII.

I remember it being Stein, not Stain.

Also I shat my pants when I saw this video.

The movie is an adaptation of the book which was read to every child which repeated this phrase in live-action world.
