Heard madness voices talking and I thought WTF I can't be mad right now, then I realized I still had a stream open (Marp or so...).

Also that new thing you can get when harvesting timber piles...

I jumped out of my skin when I heard the most horrific noise ever in the game. I expected to see a huge savage creature, then I realized I hadn't banded the lobster before trying to boil it and it escaped making that sound.

I wandered into twilight while exploring one day. Argoed a giant 3 headed turkey before I even knew they existed. Ended up running for my life only to be caught and beat to a pulp. Later that day a friend was like, "oh those are capable of murder btw." Well lucky for me the turkey was very forgiving.....

Before the thread dies off I'll throw in an excellent IRL scare story. Back in the day when it was only about 3 expansions deep, I played Everquest. I had a third shift job at the time so I was up all night, and then slept all day. One Friday night, me and this night owl guy named Apathy from our guild were out doing our usual middle of the night, nobody to group with, playing. At about 4 AM he tells me hes going to go to bed, so I figure, not a bad idea, if I go to sleep now, I get an extra couple hours of daylight on my day off. So I power down my computer and stand up, as I glanced toward the front door I can see the streetlight from the corner of my property lighting up my porch on a majorly foggy night, and on the very edge of my porch is standing some guy, about 6 foot tall, in a raincoat. My heart jumped up into my throat and my ******** puckered up into my stomach somewhere, and I grabbed a bat I kept by the door. Yeah.. ends up being the garbage man, he went early and since we take the trash out in the morning before he goes usually, he came up to the porch to grab it. So much for an early night, it took me hours to unwind after that

Biggest scare on prov for me was logging on to find I was in the stockades. At which point I bailed my self out and got back home to find a leanto setup beside my base with materials to do a TBC. I destroyed the leanto and then moved my homestead far away and was on the run for a while. The next day I found myself in the stockades again. I bailed myself out then went to see where the scents were so I could claim and cover them. I found them already claimed. I then put a doughnut claim around them as best and as fast as I could. Every day while the scents were live I would run 2 hours in a different direction to further hide my location.

My biggest scare on popham was we were firing a cannon and I disconnected while standing in front of the cannon. My character was carrying a granite block and my internet was out. The cannon was set to fire in what we thought was about 5 minutes. My internet came back up just in time for me to jump while the screen was loading. The cannon fired 20 minutes later...

Similarly, waking up after Christmas to find that I was in the stocks after spending 6 hours delivering presents all night long, but I unable to log in to save myself (not that I could - stocks are not very friendly). I was both scared and hurt. Mostly hurt. But also scared.
