I'm reminded of a favorite story...

Someone in Russia went to market and got the hand-outs they were entitled too...and fixed a fair meal.

That same couple came to America and walked into our grocery store... and fell to their knees and cried at the sheer volume of food up for sale.

Or, to say it better, i'm not judging the amount or fruit avalaible in America only because i went in New York and i saw a huge shortage of pretty much everything that wasn't meat.
That's not enough to judge this things, 'cuz i'm quite sure that stores can change a lot in the same country.
So, your story is a Nope Story, since you have to go to Russia and visit many places to know it.

But this could be common just outside new york, I can't know. More bananas and ananas, more south america's fruits of course, but indeed not that horrible emptiness i found in manhattan market.

Even if i watched the stores with my eyes, I would not tell stories about Americans that knee and cry in front of a common fruit store in Italy.

To me, a store full of meat would look totally boring. 'Cuz i would prefer a store full of fish, fruit & vegetables. That's my culture, where green and red colors are more welcome on the table. Since i know that's just a personal trait for every world country, I'm not criticizing your love for meat. I see nothing wrong with it. There's no reason to comment it, no reason to compare it with others, either. XD
Japan, as an example, have 10 different sauces for fish, and each sauce have the right fish to be used on. That's just Wow. But well, is a huge, big, big, ISLAND. So it makes sense. (Some of them are ***** tasty, yum!)
I would laugh hard if i see an american dude knee in front of an unknown amount of dishes of fish with thousands of different fish preparations. Fresh oyster roasted on a grill and sold in front of the market for less than 0.50$. I would never go away from that grill!! 8D

But, of course, no russian or american have never kneed in front of a foreigner store.
Even if that's funny, that's just fake. XD

As for America we almost always have a beef, pork, chicken, then fish right beside a section dedicated to fruits and vegetables. The fact is America has many different cultures and in our populated places you can find a grocery store just about every culture.

H-Mart located in many populated places across America. One is about 5-10 miles from Deepsixxed.

I know of two British grocers, and Indian grocer, Muslim grocer, and a Chinese grocer within 5 miles of me.. I am not sure if this exists in other countries but I am willing to bet it is not as frequent. The beauty of America is that in populated areas we are very diverse.
