I am thankful that my likewise catholic mother was more the "make your own life choices, don't let anyone tell you what to believe, think for yourself goddamnit" sort. Also, a different time, back when parents actually looked at what they gave their kids instead of forking it at them with no idea of what they just gave little timmy and then getting upset when they find out about it.

Good thing when B&W1 came out, I was old enuff to buy it myself. :p
Not like when Duke Nukem 3D came out, and I needed to ask my mother to buy it for me, but that was ok, I raised her well and she just did what I asked. ^^

It was something new for sure, and fascinating, but then there were also flaws like grinding spells into your creature or practicing Peters signature... :D
I remember I had all different kinds of creatures and tried to train them in all different ways.

That reminds me of another game that was something new and actually MUCH cooler than B&W1 though it must have been around that time, too.
And that was a game called "Sacrifice" which had then great graphics, a really cool story, told by decent voice actors, a well made, strange but fitting world and a level of immersion that felt just great.
But most of all a gameplay that was much different to anything else.
Now that I think of it, I have not seen any game like that one ever since. I still know some good part of the narrative word by word for I loved and played that one so much.
Anyone remeber that one?

My parents were much the same, but I was old enough to buy it myself and hide it. I loved the first one, and Creature Isle was pretty good too. I found the second one somewhat disappointing though, as it didn't live up to what they said it would be. I also didn't like the abrupt art changes for being evil. Suddenly, baked lava ground!

Eating 100 crunchy chicks in front of that one magic door. Fable was pretty good. Fable 2 seemed pretty short and ended really abruptly. Fable 3 was stupid.

I had as much fun playing Fable 2 as I have playing any game...

Microsoft killed off Ensemble Studios years earlier and ruined my favorite franchise which was Age of Empires.

I liked some of the games, but I think Peter Molyneux is overrated.

Definitely. Black and White was awesome considering what computers were capable of at the time, but there was all this hype about how much more awesome 2 was going to be and it really did fall pretty short of expectations, at least in my mind. Godus has just been crazy for how bad it's been. The original promises made it sound like it would be awesome, like Black and White but even better. I bought it right off and played the first version. Pretty good but needed some work. Instead of just fixing the problems, he completely redid it and didn't actually make it better. Then he did it again, and at least one more time. Complete redos without actual improvement just kinda shuffling things around. Then there was promised a fighting system to go in and it turns out it's just a second game. Two incomplete games that he doesn't appear to intend to integrate. I'm sorry I ever bought the game. :/

I loved B&W and it was also one of the most tragic shock in my childhood. I got a cracked copy of B&W from a friend in a time where i didn't had a stable internet connection. It ended up that i could not complete the game due to an error that could not be patched with a cracked game.
Tears.
And then, the HD pc broke 'cuz my brother messed with it.
More tears!!!

Now that i have a work, i own both 1 & 2. Never found the time to play the 2th though.
Cruel Life!

Anyway almost all the company i liked in my childhood are dead. Someone remembers New World Computing? (And i had to be quite grown to understand how ****** that name was, but i still love the sword INTO the world! XD)
