Mortar Suggestion

Postby MaxPlanck » Sun May 08, 2016 11:52 pm

If we place boomsticks in the mortar can we use it to blow up the ground and scatter dirt around the radius.
Screw all these cliffs that are impossible to remove,

oh and also, you can use it to mess with ppls flat land in the base.

wouldnt that be abused?

set a mortar outside a enemy townclaim and just bomb all the land till the town is unusable forever?

imagine waking up in the morning and theres 1000s of craters around ur base

Could have paved areas immune to it, and only affect biomes/dirt dug areas.

Also, it doesn't have to be boomsticks, it could be a different thing that is more material expensive so it can't be spammed as much as throwing in 1 boomstick per launch.

Or you can make it that it only works for cliffs that are a lot higher than the landscape that surrounds it.
Would help immensely with terraforming some of the more 'persistent' cliffs.
And when you look at it , it should be way easier to knock down a 1x1 5 meters tall cliff than to dig a hole even tenth of that size. You know, magic.

+1, specially if it's effective only for clifs (could have a lesser effect on flat ground)

Prevent abuse by:

Not usable on vClaim/pClaim, or within 5 tiles of one.

Placed on flat area, only blows a crater equal to someone digging it.

Limit area of effect to 5x5 tiles when placing on a cliff, meaning more of them is needed to effect larger areas.

Still makes them effective versus cliffs, without Heffs doomsday vision.

I would strongly disagree with this one because it would put unnecessary limitations to mortars. If you build a mortar with an intention of destroying "stuff" or just testing/experimenting with to see how it behaves you should bear all the consequences that come with that kind of decision.
And having a maniacal town spy just mounting it and destroyin' everything you built while you are offline seems so forum drama worthy.
My biggest issue would be balancing the depth of holes/destruction made by the mortars because there is always going to be that one guy with 5k boomsticks just SET on destroying all you have.
Remember this guys.. Sticks and stones can break your bones but apocalyptic size craters made by mortars will never go away
