No, seriously, you have said this often but I do not see where this is coming from. I have not met a single person IRL or on the internet EXCEPT in Salem itself, that has heard of Salem. Yes, Salem may very well be "well-known" in its niche (Hardcore Crafting MMO), but it does not reach a major percentage of the gaming market. Or even a decent sized fraction. Like I said, no one I have ever met has even heard of Salem

In all seriousness, im glad the thread got some decent attention, though ive noticed that any reddit post that includes extra info, i.e. Claeyt posting the link to Salem, gets downvoted to hell.. ive always wondered why that happens.

Brigading by you know who.

And something good? This is like my 3rd cowbell.

Also, this isn't even close to my best thread this week, I hit the front page on Sunday.

I live in an urban area and am a full-time University student at a tech school with a bunch of other nerds - I talk to countless random gamers throughout the day both IRL and online and none of them have seen this game before. Please show me real solid proof that this game is well known?

http://www.statista.com/topics/2290/mmo-gaming/ According to this, about 23.4 Active Monthly MMO subscribers in 2014. The most viewed YouTube Salem Video is at 175,000. But to be generous, say 500,000 people have actually seen this game in one way or another. That would mean 2% of the MMO community alone has even /seen/ this game.

Do I really need to link every MMO site that has done a review, interviews with jorb, the fact this game was at one point sponsored by paradox, sidebar links on multiple very popular reddit subs, top post on reddit or the youtube/streams.

I'm sorry that the people you have talked to aren't aware of this game but that doesn't mean it hasn't had a nice bit of exposure for how little that has been put into advertising. Of course it definitely needs more hince the cowbell program. The game really need to be revisited by people since it has changed in almost every aspect over the last 4 years. Speaking of time it has been around 2-3+ since it had big exposure from said mmo sites. This is more than likely why your friends haven't heard of the game since they would of been like 15/16 when it was getting exposure.

god I'm getting old....

I didn't and have never downvoted you. Stop being a moron. You also need to learn what brigading means because you are not using it correctly.

Fair enough. But I know for fact that this game is not on the same amount of exposure as games such as Runescape, WOW, Diablo, etc. I do agree that they may have been 16 or so at the time, but they would have seen it if it was very well known. Hopefully, yes, we do get more exposure and I am trying to assist with that by making some Youtube videos now and telling friends about the game both at school and online.

Ah i see where we are not agreeing. Yea I dunno about this game getting the type of exposure blizzard games will but you can still reach a good amount of people with what you are doing.

They need to get the big sites to rereview the game since it is under new management and totally different from when it was originally review.

I agree man, I hope once the next expedition comes out there can be some more exposure. Doesn't need to be top notch, just something like putting it on steam where people will see it all the time

Before WoW the MMO community was much smaller, so exposure was different. If you take it out of the equation, you do not have millions watching more games, so Salem does get exposure in that respect. WoW brought millions into the market that otherwise are not participating except for WoW, so their numbers are largely misplaced in comparison of other games. UO has been around ~18 years, but I do not think ever went much above 200,000 subs but is considered a very successful MMO.

Fun fact UO is still around and popular with both the actual game and private shards. Still one of the best mmos ever made.
