Loot Crate

Postby Paradoxyc » Mon Mar 21, 2016 1:16 pm

When I used to play runescape, there were small chances of getting caskets when fishing which would have some loot in them.

Could we possibly have some sort of loot crates when doing random actions? For example, when digging we might find a small chest with some random items in it (value depending on how often these crates will show up). When fishing, we might get some sort of crate with loot inside, also with value depending on how rare this event occurs. I think it would be fun to have little incentives to do random "treasure hunting", and I always enjoy finding things like this.

Brings more random moments of joy into the game, that is very much appreciated!

Though only because of the specifics of how it's described... I'd rather just have nice items you get randomly like we do while digging already, doesn't seem like having a crate involved is necessary. Plus this is already kind of implemented like in squirrel stashes, mermaid's purses, bird nests, etc. I suppose something similar could be added for digging and fishing though it can get a little boring to have every activity have the same format of rewards.

However, I would -love- some sort of actual treasure hunting mechanic (rather than just randomly, accidentally getting treasure) but that's not really what you're talking about here.

I vaguely remember something about excavation getting mentioned as something MM was thinking about in a thread a couple months ago... That would be a cool way to do it as well.

I still think it would be fun to have a bit of chance with it, as people could sell the crate/chests since they may or may not contain something special. If there will be lockpicking soon, maybe it will require lockpicking to open the chest

True, with some sort of difficulty with opening it that could be cool/unique. Maybe they could be trapped sometimes as well ¦]

Haha maybe there could be a chance of breaking the lock, and that would render the chest useless as breaking it open could destroy any valuables inside

what is the difference from random inspirationals as we are getting them right now?
I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.

They are tradeable as chance items, like mermaid purses but less themed (random item)

I think they should still be themed. Maybe chance of picking the lock depends on some proficiency (natural philosophy? m+m? h+n?) and if you fail then you're forced to break open the lock as you described, which would ruin the more valuable things it could possible have... perhaps leaving broken shreds of it to mock you ;P

The proficiency curve could be very drawn out making it wiser to sell it to uber high level characters rather than risk opening it yourself, or paying someone to open it for you... if you can trust them ;)

This sounds like a fishing event. Like seeing a shade in the water and fishing there gets you some kind of item. We have these random loot things already for various tasks. The eagles nest for chopping a tree with an eagle in it. Blubber from whales. Obsidian on mountains when mining. Pilgrim carts that provide barrels of materials. A fishing one (provided there is not one already) would be interesting and nice.
