For example, Town of Salem is a free browser game but it was greenlit on steam and with the purchase you get enough gold to buy some aesthetic outfit or whatever. Even if they don't buy it through steam at least more people will know about it and can therefore find the game to try it. Also, like I said I have no idea about perma-death but there are games on steam that have permadeath and a lot of people look for challenging games. As for the $100 I think you're right, because I read that once you pay for greenlight you can submit as many times as you want, since the 100 is more of a one time charge to join the service.
Also, even if a cut was taken, its not like MM would be losing money. They would be getting a lot more players and hence more money even if the profit is cut by a percentage.
So you listed a bunch of games what are not in fact permadeath mmos and have no relation to this game. Awesome.
You are acting like Salem is some unknown MMO. It's been fairly well known since 2012. Until recently it was linked in reddit's MMORPG subreddit sidebar.
Im not sure what you don't understand by them losing money with steam. Why sell anything on steam when there is already a store which everything goes to the devs TO IMPROVE THE GAME. I'm not saying "they shouldn't use steam" I'm saying they should have the game on steam as a advertisement and use the current store system. THERE IS ALREADY A NOOBIE PACK ON THE STORE. I don't understand why you are trying to defend them losing out on money that could go into art or game technology.
I think there is a post somewhere from Meow/John/Marp I'm not sure which but they talked about this. There is a lot of good and bad that comes with steam
